AK23005103Location: HomerType: Hindering Prosecution 2nd
On 1/16/23 at about 1330 hours, Troopers arrested Ann Graham, 20 of Homer, for hindering prosecution after she was found assisting her boyfriend, who had active warrants for his arrest, in avoiding law enforcement. Graham had previously been contacted twice within 24 hours by AST and warned about assisting the boyfriend. Graham was remanded into the Homer Jail where bail was set at release on her own recognizance.

Advisory Text:On 1/17/2023 at approximately 1347 hours, The Alaska State Troopers received a report of a disturbance on Willaway Way, in Wasilla. Investigation revealed that Phokham Khamnivong, age 40 years old, assaulted a family member with a vehicle, and damaged the vehicle in the process. Phokham was arrested, and transported to Palmer Pretrial where he was remanded for assault in the third degree, and criminal mischief in the fourth degree.

AK23005230Location: Copper CenterType: Assault 1st/DV, Assault 3rd/DV and Assault 4th/DV
On 01/16/2023 at approximately 2324 hours, AST received a 911 call from a female who was crying, screaming for help and requesting troopers near mile 91 of the Richardson Highway in Copper Center. Investigation revealed Dale Reotman, age 30 of Copper Center, had strangled a family member twice during an assault. During one of the strangulations the family member lost consciousness but was cleared by medical personal with only minor injuries. Dale was arrested for Assault 1st/DV, Assault 3rd/DV and Assault 4th/DV. Dale is being held at MAT-SU Pretrial on a $5,000 cash bail and a $2,500 unsecure bond.

AK23005252Location: Mat Su ValleyType: DV Assault
On 1/17/23 at approx. 0400hrs AST received a 911 call reporting the Christopher Howlett, age 41 of Wasilla was creating a disturbance. Investigation revealed that Howlett assaulted a family member and damaged property. Howlett was arrested without incident and was transported to the Palmer Pretrial Facility where he was remanded on one count of Assault IV and on count of Criminal Mischief V. Howlett is being held without bail pending arraignment.

AK23005176Location: WasillaType: Vehicle Theft
On 1/16/2023, at approximately 1835 hours, AST was notified that a vehicle was stolen from the parking lot of Wasilla Foodmart, at the intersection of Seldon Rd and Wasilla Fishhook Rd in Wasilla. Investigation revealed an unidentified Caucasian male stole a 2004 Beige Chevrolet Suburban, and headed north on Wasilla Fishhook Rd. Investigation is ongoing. AK23004865Location: WasillaType: Vehicle theft, Traffic pursuit, PIT application
On January 15, 2023, at 10:21 am, Alaska State Troopers received a report that a vehicle was stolen from the Bogard area in Wasilla approximately five minutes prior to the call. A few minutes later, Troopers observed the vehicle heading northbound on the Parks Highway leaving the Wasilla area. The driver attempted to evade Troopers by quickly turning off the highway and a traffic stop was initiated. The vehicle then fled, re-entered the highway, and continued from Wasilla to the Houston area. The vehicle slowed to attempt turning onto a side street in the Houston area and presented an opportunity to perform a PIT (pursuit intervention technique) maneuver. A PIT/pin was performed and terminated the pursuit. The driver, later identified as Jamie Wooley, age 29 of Wasilla, was arrested for vehicle theft one, failure to stop at the direction of a peace officer one, and an outstanding felony warrant. The AST involved vehicle was undamaged. The stolen vehicle suffered minor damage and was driven away by the owner.

AK23005442Location: WalesType: Fatal Bear Attack
Final Update: Earlier today, an Alaska State Trooper and a representative from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game traveled to Wales to investigate the polar bear attack that occurred yesterday. The remains of Myomick and Ongtowasruk were transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. The investigation revealed that Myomick and Ongtowasruk were walking between the school and the clinic when the bear attacked them.
Update 1/18/23: Poor weather conditions in the region and the lack of runway lights in Wales prevented Troopers and Alaska Department of Fish and Game personnel from making it to Wales. Troopers are continuing to make efforts to fly to Wales today. The adult female killed in the attack is identified as 24-year-old Saint Michael resident Summer Myomick. The juvenile is identified as her 1-year-old son Clyde Ongtowasruk. Next of kin has been notified. The attack reportedly occurred in the village near the school. The US Fish and Wildlife Service has been notified of the incident.
Original: On January 17, 2023, at 2:30 pm, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a polar bear attack in Wales. Initial reports indicate that a polar bear had entered the community and had chased multiple residents. The bear fatally attacked an adult female and juvenile male – it was shot and killed by a local resident as it attacked the pair. Troopers and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game are working to travel to Wales as weather conditions allow. Next of kin notifications are still in progress.

AK23005345Location: FairbanksType: Property Theft
On January 17, 2023 at approximately 1000 hours, AST responded to TCI Construction Co to investigate a string of thefts on the business property. TCI reported that a group of people had walked onto the property over 4 instances between 01/09-01/17 and stole $6,000 worth of fittings and siphoned fuel from multiple company vehicles. AST is aware of the increase of thefts in the lower Fairbanks industrial area. AST Patrol has been advised to make an increased presence in the area. Business owners in the area are encouraged to report any crime or suspicious activity. Investigation is still ongoing.

On January 16, 2023, Alaska State Troopers in Fairbanks responded to an address in North Pole regarding a domestic dispute. AST investigation lead to the arrest of Hao Li, a 42 year old male for Assault in the third degree and Assault in the fourth degree for assaulting his household member during the incident. He was remanded to Fairbanks Correctional Center.

On 1-17-23, at approximately 1311 hours, the Alaska Wildlife Troopers observed and contacted three individuals ice fishing on Delong Lake in Anchorage. The investigation revealed they did not have valid fishing licenses. Citations for Sportfishing without a license in possession were issued to Kyla Reanne Matson, age 35 of Anchorage, Michael Jack Obrien, age 39 of Pennsylvania, and Jamie Clint Odomin, age 31 of Chignik Lake.
