On 1/18/23 at approximately 1638 hours, the Thorne Bay VPSO and E.M.S team responded to a report of a float house on fire. The owner of the residence was present during the fire and escaped with only superficial injuries. A neighbor transported the float house owner to the Thorne Bay Harbor where EMS provided medical treatment. Medical transport was not necessary. The residence was lost during the fire.

In November 2022 the Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales received a request for an agency assist from the Fort Worth Texas Police Department, Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) taskforce. Their Investigation revealed Irving Woods, age 56 of Klawock, participated in online chats with an individual he believed to be a minor. This individual was actually an ICAC investigator posed as the minor. On 01/18/2023 an extraditable warrant from Texas was issued for Woods’s arrest. Woods was arrested in Klawock on the warrant and booked at the Craig Jail without incident. Woods will be held in Alaska without bail awaiting extradition.

On 01/19/2023 at about 0016 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a Domestic Disturbance at a residence on Old Diary Road. Investigation revealed that Orlin Cochran, age 48 of Ketchikan had assaulted several family members. Further Investigation revealed Cochran broke several items inside the residence prior to fleeing the residence. Cochran was not located in the immediate area. AST requested and was granted an Arrest Warrant for Cochran by the Ketchikan Courthouse. On 01/19/2023 at about 1215 hours, Cochran was contacted and arrested by AST on his outstanding warrant. Cochran was remanded to Ketchikan Correctional Center with bail set at $500.00.

On 1/18/23 at 2251 hours, AST attempted to stop a 2011 Chevy Cruz for speeding 104 mph in a 65 mph zone. The vehicle eluded police and was traveling 100mph though Wasilla. The vehicle eventually pulled into the owner's driveway on Trevett Cir and the driver 31 year old Jeffry Iglesias was arrested for Reckless Driving and Felony Eluding.

On 01/19/2023 at approximately 0515 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received reports of a REDDI vehicle in the area of Wasilla Fishhook Rd and Seldon Rd in Wasilla and began attempts to locate the vehicle when it was finally reported to have overturned off the roadway on Bogard Rd near Seward Meridian Parkway. The investigation resulted in the arrest of driver, Evelyn Ballot, 35-years-old of Wasilla. Ballot was remanded to Mat-Su Pre-Trial on charges of Assault in the Third Degree, DUI and Reckless Endangerment after passengers in her vehicle received non-life-threatening injuries.

FINAL UPDATE 1/25: On January 25, 2023, a North Slope Borough helicopter arrived in Kotzebue with multiple searchers to assist in the search for Thomas Brown. At around 1:30 pm, Brown's body was located 10.5 miles south of Kotzebue near Cape Blossom. Next of kin has been notified.
Update 1/23: The search for Thomas Brown continued over the weekend into today. Alaska State Troopers and volunteers are continuing to search the area around where Josiah Ballot was found with ground and air assets.
Update 1/21: The search for Thomas Brown is continuing via ground and air. Josiah Ballot was medevaced to an Anchorage area hospital for medical treatment. Anyone with information about Brown's whereabouts is asked to contact the Alaska State Troopers at (907) 451-5100.
UPDATE 1/20: On January 20, 2023 at 2:17 pm, a private plane located Josiah Ballot approximately 28 miles south of Kotzebue. The pilot alerted an Alaska Wildlife Trooper in the area. Ballot was suffering from severe frostbite and was transported via a Troopers plane directly to Kotzebue for medical services. The search for Thomas Brown is ongoing via air and land assets.
Update 1/20: The search for Ballot and Brown continues today. Local search and rescue teams continue to search on the ground, and private aircraft and DPS aircraft are conducting aerial searches. Anyone with information about Ballot and Brown's whereabouts is asked to contact the Alaska State Troopers at (907) 451-5100.
Original: On January 16, 2023, at 12:29 pm, the Northwest Arctic Borough Search and Rescue Coordinator called Alaska State Troopers to report two people were overdue on a red and black Yamaha snowmachine traveling between Kotzebue and Noorvik. It was reported that Josiah Ballot 18 years old of Selawik and Thomas Brown 18 years old of Ambler, told friends they were leaving Kotzebue at midnight via social media. Messages from the party identified their location in Kotzebue at 3:00 am on January 16, possibly heading to Noorvik. Searchers from Kotzebue, Noorvik, and Selawik conducted ground searches of the trails and coastline in the area. Troopers have flown the Selawik to Noorvik trail and the Noorvik to Kotzebue trail in search of the two men. On January 18, Noorvik, Selawik, and Noatak searchers along with Troopers searched the trails and area between Kotzebue and Noorvik. On January 19, search teams will continue searching for Ballot and Brown via ground and air.

On December 21, 2022, AST responded to a North Pole residence to investigate a sexual assault of a 13-year old female. The Alaska Bureau of Investigation conducted an investigation.

On 1-18-2023, a local Nenana residence reported their vehicle was stolen. AST responded the morning of 1-19-23 and searched for the vehicle. AT approximately 1600 hours on 1-19-23, the person reported back that they had located and recovered the vehicle. The person refused to provide any further details of whom had stolen the vehicle or where the vehicle was recovered. AST closed the incident with the vehicle recovered.
