    Type: Burglary, Theft of ATM

    Dispatch Text:

    On 01/24/2022 at approximately 0345 hours, AST responded to a burglary that occurred at the Matanuska Cannabis Co. in the Butte. Two masked males forcefully entered the business after pulling the gate open with their truck and prying the main door open causing damages. The males went directly for an ATM in the business with a dolly taking the ATM and fleeing the scene prior to AST arrival. The vehicle was described as a two-toned blue F-150 styled vehicle and was last seen heading south on the Old Glenn Highway. AST is requesting anyone who may have witnessed this incident or have information regarding the ATM theft to call MATCOM dispatch at 352-5401 or Crime Stoppers at 745-3333.

    Update 1/24/22: The State Medical Examiner has positively identified the deceased as 69-year-old Fairbanks resident Larry Garrett. Next of kin have been notified. 

    Original: On December 23, 2021, at 4:26 am, the Alaska State Troopers were requested to conduct a welfare check at a home outside of Fairbanks after the resident hadn’t been seen in several days by neighbors. Troopers responded and located a deceased adult male inside the home. The remains were sent to the state medical examiner for positive identification and autopsy.

    Type: Search and Rescue

    On January 23, 2022, at 5:11 pm, the Alaska State Troopers were notified that three adult males had become stranded while hunting near 12-mile Summit near the Steese Highway. The group used a satellite communications device to alert the Troopers to their situation. The Alaska State Troopers worked with the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center to launch a helicopter from Fort Wainwright to extract the group. Troopers and the RCC team located the group and transported them to a Fairbanks area hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

    Type: DUI, Probation Violation

    Dispatch Text:

    On 1/24/22 at approximately 2020 hours Tok AST located a vehicle in the ditch near mile 119 Tok Cutoff. Investigation revealed Vanessa Murphy, age 36 of Slana, was operating the vehicle after consuming alcohol. Murphy was also found to be on probation for Criminally Negligent Homicide in case 3GL-16-00070CR, Murphy was arrested and transported to Tok AST. Murphy was later transported to FCC and remanded on 1 count of DUI and 1 count of Probation Violation with bail to be set at a later time.

AK Wildlife Troopers

    Type: Fail to Record on Fish Ticket

    Dispatch Text:

    On 1/24/22, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, contacted Ryan S. Andrews, age 43 of Sitka following a commercial salmon offload at a local processor.  Investigation revealed Andrews had retained two king salmon on board his commercial vessel which had not been reported on the fish ticket as required.  Andrews was cited for failing to record personal use fish on the fish ticket.  An arraignment is set in the District Court at Sitka.

    Type: Prostitution Operation

    Dispatch Text:

     The Alaska State Troopers Special Crimes Investigation Unit (SCIU) conducted multiple prostitution patron stings in Fairbanks and Anchorage in January 2022 resulting in charges against 22 men that attempted to solicit sex. Troopers posed as women soliciting sex for money during the operation and contacted the men when they arrived at various locations in each community.

    Alaska law prohibits payment for sexual conduct under AS 11.66.100(a)(2). All 22 men contacted during the operation were charged with the Class B Misdemeanor of Prostitution.

    “Prostitution is not a victimless crime, and is often financially intertwined with sex trafficking, drug trafficking, violent crimes, and sexual assault,” said Colonel Bryan Barlow, Director of the Alaska State Troopers. “Your Alaska State Troopers are committed to investigating and working with our law enforcement partners to hold accountable anyone who victimizes Alaskans. The Alaska State Troopers are planning additional operations in the future to help reduce demand for these illicit services across the state.”

    During the Fairbanks operation nine men were contacted and ultimately charged.
