    Location: Kake
    Type: SAR

    Dispatch Text:

    Update: On 10/18/21 at 1140 hours, a SEADOGS team located Dalton deceased approximately 2.5 miles from his vehicle. It appears that Dalton succumbed to the elements. Dalton’s body is being transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage for autopsy. Next of kin has been notified.

    On 10/16/21 at 1927 hours, AST received a report that David Dalton, age 55 of Kake, had gone missing. Dalton was last seen on 10/15/21 at approximately 1230 hours. Dalton was wearing all black clothing and had a backpack. On 10/16/21 Dalton’s pickup was located near Sitkum Creek. Local Search and Rescue teams attempted a search of the immediate area around the vehicle and located some items belonging to Dalton approximately 50 yards from the vehicle. United States Coast Guard conducted a search of 2 square miles using the helicopter and FLIR device. There was report of a possible flare sighting near the T-Junction and the landfill. USCG helicopter was unable to locate any signs of people in the area. The local SAR team was also unable to locate any person’s in the area where the flare was seen. Seadogs are flying two K-9 teams to Kake to continue the search. Members of Sitka Mountain Rescue is also assisting with the search.

    Type: Warrant Arrest/Resisting Arrest/False Information

    On 10-18-21 at 1400 hours the Alaska State Troopers contacted Promise Chipps (24 YOA of Homer) in Ninilchik.  Chipps had a warrant for her arrest for probation violation.  Chipps provided AST with a false name and resisted arrest.  Chipps was arrested and remanded to the Wildwood Pre Trial Facility where she was held without bail.

    Type: DUI; MIW

    Dispatch Text:

    On 10/17/21 at 1825 hours, AST performed a traffic stop on a blue 1990 Chevy Suburban for numerous violations in the Caswell Lakes subdivision in Willow. The vehicle was also called in as a REDDI vehicle 30 minutes prior to the stop. AST contacted the driver, Forrest Gotthardt age 39 of Anchorage, and arrested him for DUI and Misconduct Involving Weapons in the 4th Degree. Gotthardt was transported to the MSPT facility in Palmer where he was remanded into custody and held without bail.

    Type: SAR/Death Investigation

    Dispatch Text:

    On 10/15/2021 at approximately 1516 hours, Dillingham AST received a report that Michael Andrew age 30 of Aleknagik, left on the afternoon of 10/13/2021 for a four-wheeler ride around Marsh Mountain and had not returned home. A hasty search and aerial search were conducted around Aleknagik with the help of the Wood-Tikchik State Park Rangers, however Michael was not located. On 10/16/21 at approximately 1059 hours, Troopers from Dillingham with the assistance of the Wood-Tikchik State Park Rangers, located Michael Andrew in the Wood River deceased approximately two miles from the convergence of the Wood River and Aleknagik Lake. Andrew’s body has been transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage to determine the cause of death. Next of Kin has been notified. Investigation is ongoing.

    Type: Criminal Trespass, Burglary & Criminal Mischief

    On 10/18/2021 between 1250 and 1330 hours, Galena AST received two reports of unoccupied properties in Ruby having been burglarized sometime in the past two months. Initial investigation revealed broken windows and other substantial damage to both residences. Investigation is ongoing.

    Type: Criminal Mischief

    Dispatch Text:

    On 10/13/2021 around 0956 hours, Galena AST was notified of an incident involving an unidentified vehicle which struck a large heating oil barrel at the Ruby Fuel Depot and left the scene. The collision resulted in a large heating oil spill as well as damage to the fuel depot heating system. Investigation is ongoing.
