On Feb. 6, Alaska State Troopers received a report around 4 p.m. that 79-year-old Thomas McGuire of Haines had not returned home after ice skating at Chilkoot Lake. McGuire was skating alone and his vehicle was located in a parking lot near the lake. Responders from the Haines Volunteer Fire Department and Alaska State Parks attempted to search the lake, but the search was suspended due to unstable ice. McGuire’s next of kin was notified.

On 02/06/2025 the Alaska State Troopers located and arrested Kevin Harless, age 36 of Wasilla, who had a $5000 bench warrant. Kevin was transported to Mat-Su Pre-Trial without incident.

On 02/07/2025, Court Services Officers assigned to Palmer Judicial Services arrested Alexander Anvil, age 18 from Palmer. Anvil had an active warrant for his arrest for failure to remand on the original charge of DUI. Anvil was remanded to Mat Su Pretrial with time to serve.

FINAL UPDATE: February 8, 2025, 2:30 pm. The Alaska State Troopers, NTSB, and Alaska National Guard aircraft and personnel conducted recovery efforts today at the site of the Bering Air plane crash. Two HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters, a Nome-based UH-60L Black Hawk, an HC -130J Combat King II and a team of pararescuemen worked to recover the victims. The bodies have been recovered and brought to Nome where they were positively identified by Alaska State Troopers. The bodies will now be transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Anchorage for autopsies. Next of kin has been notified.
The names of the crash victims are listed below:

30-year-old Andrew Gonzalez of Wasilla

48-year-old Carol Mooers of Unalakleet
UPDATE: February 7, 2025, 9:30am. Search efforts for the missing plane are ongoing. The U.S. Coast Guard, Alaska Air National Guard, Alaska Army National Guard, Alaska State Troopers, and local search teams are actively looking for the aircraft. The U.S. Coast Guard is the lead agency overseeing the ongoing search efforts.
ORIGINAL: On February 6, 2025, at 4:00pm, AST was contacted by AKRCC in reference to an overdue aircraft. It was reported that a Bering Air Caravan had gone missing while en route from Unalakleet to Nome, with 9 passengers and 1 pilot on board. SAR crews are working to get to the last known coordinates. Updates to follow.

On February 7, 2025, at approximately 0505 hours, Fairbanks AST conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Old Steese Highway. Investigation revealed probable cause to arrest the driver, Shaun Combs, for misconduct involving a controlled substance in the fifth degree. Shaun was remanded to FCC without incident.

On January 7, 2025 at approximately 1049hours, the Alaska State Troopers responded to the Mitchell Expressway and S University Ave for a Motor Vehicle Collision with Injury. The causing driver was issued a citation for failure to yield when turning left. The other driver was transported to FMH with minor injuries.

Investigation revealed that Sharniece Moore placed a family member in fear of physical injury. Troopers attempted to locate Sharniece but were unsuccessful. Charges have been forwarded to Fairbanks District Attorney's Office for Assault 4.

On 01/19/2025 at approximately 2106 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to Lakeview Terrace Rd for a report of repeated protective order violations. investigation revealed a sixteen-year-old Fairbanks female violated a protective order. Charges of violating a protective order were forwarded against the juvenile offender to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

On 01/23/2025 at approximately 0755 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a report by Alaska Waste Management employees, that a vehicle had been stolen from the Easy St. Landfill and driven to the Lakeview Terrace neighborhood. No suspects were present when Troopers arrived and the vehicle was returned to the Landfill. Further investigation is ongoing.
