    On May 19, 2024, at 11:52 AM, Alaska State Troopers received a report of an adult male who was attacked by a cow moose in Homer. The cow moose charged two men, kicking one of them. Medics arrived on the scene and declared the victim deceased. Alaska State Troopers and Alaska Wildlife Troopers from Anchor Point responded to the scene. The cow moose has since left the area. The investigation is ongoing.

    On 5/18/2024 AST Troopers contacted 32 year-old Soldotna resident Jasmine George. George had an arrest warrant for failure to appear and violating conditions of release. George was arrested and remanded at Wildwood pretrial.

    On 05/18/2024 at about 1905 hours, Seward AST received a REDDI (Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately) report that a Ford Escape was passing unsafely in the oncoming lane on blind corners. Seward AST located the Ford Escape and conducted a traffic stop on it on the Seward Highway in Crown Point. The driver was identified as Justis Hulse, 34 YOA of Eagle River and the passenger was identified as Tiffanie Fox, 29 YOA of Eagle River. The investigation revealed that Justis was driving under the influence of drugs and with a revoked license. Both Justis and Tiffanie were found to be in possession of suspected heroin and methamphetamine. Justis was placed under arrest for 1 count of DUI, 1 count of DWLR (driving with license revoked), and 2 counts of MICS (misconduct involving controlled substances) in the 5th degree. Tiffanie was issued 2 misdemeanor citations for MICS in the 5th degree and released on scene. Justis was remanded to Spring Creek Correctional Center on the aforementioned charges and held on $500 bail due to a prior DUI conviction.

    On 5/19/24 at approximately 0100 AST responded to a disturbance in Wasilla. Following the investigation Tyler Whitley, age 31 of Wasilla, was arrested and remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial for two counts of DV-related assault in the fourth degree.

    UPDATE 5/22 2:00 pm: The Alaska State Trooper who discharged their firearm is identified as:

    • Trooper Christopher Green, a 16-year veteran of the Alaska State Troopers currently assigned to Saint Mary’s post

    The investigation into the shooting is active and ongoing, and once completed, it will be independently reviewed by the Alaska Office of Special Prosecutions.

    ORIGINAL: On May 18, 2024, at around 2:00 pm, the Alaska State Troopers responded to a residence in Marshall after receiving reports that an 18-year-old female was armed with a handgun and threatening to kill herself. Troopers and Marshall Tribal Police Officers located the female at a residence and while they were attempting to speak with her, she produced a handgun. Due to the female’s actions an Alaska State Trooper discharged their handgun as officers were exiting the residence. A short time later the female exited the residence and was detained. No Troopers, citizens, or the female that was brandishing the firearm were injured during the incident.

    The Alaska State Troopers Western Alaska Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene and assumed case responsibility. They will conduct a thorough investigation into the shooting. Once their investigation is complete it will be independently reviewed by the Alaska Office of Special Prosecutions. After it is independently reviewed, an administrative investigation will be conducted to determine if any DPS or State of Alaska policies were violated during the incident.

    The Trooper that discharged their weapon has been placed on 3 days of administrative leave. The female was taken into protective custody. No criminal charges have been filed at this time.

    On 05/18/2024, Alaska State Troopers responded to the report of a gun shot victim who suffered non-life threatening injures.  The investigation found that the victim was shot during an accidental discharge and no crimes were found to have taken place.

    On 05/19/2024, Alaska State Troopers responded to the Chena Pump Rd. boat landing regarding a disturbance.  During the investigation, a minor was charged with possessing alcohol underage and Misconduct Involving Controlled Substance 6th degree, for possessing marijuana.  They were turned over to their parents.

    On May 15, 2024, AST received the report from Circle that 26-year-old Ethan Wiehl-Ortiz was violating his conditions of release. During the investigation, it was discovered that Ethan is also tattooing in Circle without a license. Charges on Ethan for Violation of Conditions of Release and Failure to Possess a License or Permit have been forwarded to the District Attorney Office.

AK Wildlife Troopers

    Type: Fail to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer 1st Degree, Reckless Driving, Driving Under the Influence

    Dispatch Text:

    On 5/18/24, at approximately 1850 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers working in the Knik River Public Use Area (KRPUA) observed a male operating an ATV on the Old Glenn Highway.  Troopers attempted to perform a traffic stop on the ATV, but the ATV failed to yield and began driving recklessly down the highway before veering off onto the Knik River riverbed.

    At approximately 2350 hours, Troopers were able to locate the rider and ATV in the Jim Creek Parking Lot.  The driver was identified as 23-year-old Ethan Cooper of Anchorage.  Further investigation revealed Cooper had been operating his ATV under the influence of alcohol. 

    Cooper was subsequently arrested for Failure to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer in the 1st Degree, Reckless Driving, and Driving Under the Influence.  He was transported to Mat-Su Pre-Trial where he was held without bail.

    On 4/30/24 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, cited Richard J. Davis, age 65 of Juneau, for retaining lingcod as bycatch in the commercial troll fishery in March 2024.  Bycatch in the commercial troll fishery opens 5/16/24.  An arraignment is set in the district court at Sitka.

    On 5/12/24, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, cited Taylor Lecrone, age 30, of Sitka, for operating personal use Dungeness crab gear without two 4 3/8" escape rings installed.  Lecrone was cited, with bail set at $120 in the district court at Sitka.
