Alaska State Troopers Press Release of Saturday, May 8, 2021

AK21046980Location: KetchikanType: Warrant Arrest
On 05/08/2021 at about 1600 hours, Metlakatla Police Department located and identified the other person who fled from them on 05/05/2021 as James Acker, age 23 of Ketchikan who they observed walking on Tait Street in Metlakatla. Acker had an outstanding arrest warrant issued by the Ketchikan Court reference Burglary in the 1st Degree and Theft in the 3rd Degree. Upon contact Acker again attempted to flee on foot but after a short foot pursuit was immediately taken into custody. United States Coast Guard (USCG) was patrolling in the area and rendered their assistance and assisted with transporting Acker to Ketchikan where AST met USCG and Metlakatla Police Department. Acker was remanded to Ketchikan Correctional Center with bail set at $10,000. Further charges are being forwarded to the District Attorney's Office on Acker. AST and Metlakatla PD would like to thank the USCG for their assistance and fast response.
On 05/05/2021 at about 1730 hours, the Alaska State Troopers were contacted by Metlakatla Police Department about two people who had arrived by skiff into Metlakatla. AST and Metlakatla Police Department were able to identify the two individuals as two people with outstanding warrants from Ketchikan. Metlakatla Police Department attempted to contacted the two who both fled on foot. Metlakatla Police Department arrested Brandi Edenshaw, age 26 of POW after a short foot pursuit. The other subject was reported to have got into a boat and fled the area. United States Coast Guard assisted with attempting to locate the boat which fled the area but was not successful with locating the boat. USCG assisted and transported Edenshaw back to Ketchikan where she was remanded on her outstanding warrant which stems from the original charges of Burglary in the 1st Degree and Theft in the 3rd Degree. Bail was set at $5,000. AST and Metlakatla PD would like to thank the USCG for their assistance with the investigation.

AK21048216Location: WasillaType: Assault 3rd x 3; Warrant Arrest
On 05/07/21 at 0730 hours, AST responded to a residence on Twilight Drive in Wasilla for the report of a disturbance involving a deadly weapon. Investigation revealed Joseph Marquis, age 38 of Wasilla, was under the influence of a controlled substance and threatened family members with a hatchet. Marquis fled prior to AST arrival, but was located at 2045 hours near mile 13 of Knik Goose Bay Road. Further investigation revealed Marquis had an outstanding warrant for FTA arraignment for the original charge of Criminal Mischief. Marquis was arrested for his warrant and for the new charges of Assault in the 3rd Degree x 3 counts. Marquis was transported to the MSPT facility in Palmer where he was remanded into custody and held without bail.

AK21048707Location: WasillaType: DWLR
On 05/08/21 at 0325 hours, AST performed a traffic stop on a red 1996 GMC pick-up near mile 46 of the Parks Highway in Wasilla for expired registration and following another vehicle too close. AST contacted the driver, Gregory Lee age 39 of Wasilla, who was driving with a revoked driver’s license. Lee was issued a misdemeanor citation for the original offense of Driving While License Revoked with a mandatory court appearance at a later date.

AK21048580Location: WasillaType: DV Assault 4
On 05/07/21 at approximately 1845 hours Troopers responded to the area of KGB/ Mainsail in regards to a 911 disconnect. Investigation revealed that Cole, Nathaniel age 30 did recklessly place another household member in fear of imminent physical injury. He was arrested for DV Assault 4th degree and transported to Matsu pretrial. He was booked and held without bail.

On 05/08/2021 at approximately 0421 hours, Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a red Chevrolet for an equipment violation at the intersection of Parks Hwy and Hawk Lane. Investigation revealed Steven Hiborik, age 54 of Willow, was driving with a revoked license. The vehicle was towed away as Hiborik was issued a misdemeanor summons for Driving While License is Revoked and released on his own recognizance.

AK21048532Location: Big LakeType: Violation Conditions of Release
On 05/07/2021 at about 1607 hours the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a disturbance after the fact at a residence in Big Lake Alaska. On scene investigation revealed that Jacob Crombie (age 30) of Big Lake was currently in violation of his conditions of release from a prior incident. Jacob was arrested and transported to Mat Su Pretrial where he was remanded and the charge of Violation of Conditions of Release (DV) and held without bail.

AK21048310Location: WasillaType: Assault 4th Degree
On 05/07/2021 at about 1043 hours the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a disturbance at a business on the Palmer Wasilla Highway near Seward Meridian. On scene investigation revealed that Theron Freeman (age 25) of Wasilla had assaulted a stranger inside the store. Prior to AST arrival Theron had left the business with an unknown direction of travel. AST saw the vehicle in which Theron had left the store driving southbound on the Parks Highway. AST was able to stop the vehicle on Fireweed near Hyer Road and contact Theron who was subsequently placed under arrest for assault in the 4th. He was then transported to Mat Su Pretrial with bail set at $250.00.

AK21048807Location: ALCAN BorderType: Criminal Trespass 2nd Degree
On 5/8/21 at approximately 0930 hours Fairbanks dispatch was contacted by US Customs and Border Protection at the ALCAN Port of Entry asking for AST assistance in removing a hostile subject from their premises. AST responded and contacted Terry Sharkey, age 61 of Anchorage. Investigation revealed Sharkey had been denied entry to Canada, arrested by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and transported back to US Customs. Sharkey then refused to identify himself to US Customs officers and had to be detained. After Customs determined they could not hold him, he was released but refused to leave. Sharkey was subsequently arrested for Criminal Trespass 2nd Degree and transported to Tok AST Post. Tok AST attempted to release Sharkey on his own recognizance with conditions of release. Sharkey refused to sign the conditions of release and was later transported to FCC.
