    Dispatch Text:

    On 05/08/2021 at approximately 2359 hours Alaska State Troopers performed a traffic stop on the Sterling Highway in Soldotna. Investigation revealed the driver Randy Bird, age 69 of Soldotna, was driving under the influence and in possession of controlled substances. Bird was arrested for DUI and MICS5 and remanded at Wildwood Pretrial.

    Type: DUI, Refusal, VCOR, Resisting Arrest, False Report, and Disorderly Conduct.

    On 05/09/2021 at approximately 0242 hours Alaska State Troopers responded to a 911 call in Nikiski. Following investigation, Mykola Osiychuk, age 21 of Wasilla, was arrested for false report, driving under the influence, violating conditions of release, resisting arrest, refusal to submit to a chemical test, and disorderly conduct. Osiychuk was remanded at Wildwood Pretrial.

    Type: Warrant Arrest x2, VCOR, MICS 2, MICS 4, Tampering with Physical Evidence

    On 5/8/2021 at 0047 hours, Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for an equipment violation.  Garrett Tikka, age 28, of Soldotna exited the vehicle and ran from Troopers. After a short foot pursuit Garrett was detained.  Investigation revealed Garrett had an outstanding felony warrant, violating conditions of release, second degree misconduct involving a controlled substance, fourth degree misconduct involving a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence. Tikka was arrested and remanded at Wildwood Pretrial without bail.

    On 5/8/2021, at approximately 1919 hours, Alaska State Troopers conducted traffic stop for speeding. Troopers contacted Kyle Bunting, 22, of Kenai. Investigation revealed he was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance. Bunting was arrested and Transported to Wildwood Pretrial Facility for driving under the influence.

    On 5/9/2021, at approximately 0205 hours, Alaska State Troopers conducted traffic stop for a moving violation. Troopers contacted Chris Hendricks, 55, of Clam Gulch. Investigation revealed he was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance. Hendricks was arrested and Transported to Wildwood Pretrial Facility for driving under the influence.

    Dispatch Text:

    On 05/08/21 at approximately 1829 hours AST Dispatch received a call for two individuals that were stranded near the Knik Glacier after their UTV had become disabled. Due to the tough trail conditions the decision was made to use the ARMY National Guard to rescue them. RCC assisted with the SAR and at approximately 2215 hours they were safely extracted. There were no injuries to the individuals.

    Dispatch Text:

    On 05/09/2021 at approximately 0911 hours, Alaska State Troopers in Palmer received a report of a single-vehicle roll-over collision where the vehicle was on fire and it was currently unknown whether the occupants were out of the vehicle or trapped inside. Troopers arrived on scene to find the vehicle overturned on its side and was fully engulfed. Investigation revealed several good Samaritans stopped out with the vehicle and assisted with extracting the driver as the cab of the vehicle ignited. There were no other occupants in the vehicle and the driver was transported to Mat-Su Regional with apparent minor injuries. Alcohol was not believed to be a contributing factor. Investigation is ongoing.

    On 05/09/2021 at approximately 1145 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a domestic disturbance near Van Gorder Dr. in Wasilla. The DA’s office was consulted and advised to forward charges for review.

    Type: SAR / Boat Capsized

    Dispatch Text:

    On 05/09/2021 at approximately 1509 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a boat capsized in Talkeetna near Chase Trail. The boat contained three individuals that were all safe, two were able to self-rescue and the third was rescued with assistance from Phantom Charter along with Talkeetna Fire and Rescue.

    On 05/09/2021 at approximately 1744 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence near Toller Court in Wasilla.  Investigation revealed that Martin Thompson, age 39, became intoxicated and placed his mother in fear of physical injury after punching indentations in a refrigerator.  Further, Martin attempted to wrestle free from Troopers after being advised that he was placed under arrest.  Martin was charged with DV Assault IV, DV Criminal Mischief V, and Resisting Arrest.  He was remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial Facility on no bail.

    Update 5/10: The helicopter has been identified as an Enstrom F-28F operated by Talaheim Air Service.

    Original: On 05/09/2021 at approximately 1436 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a helicopter crash in the area of Outer Springer Loop and Kaye Marie Lane in Palmer.  Preliminary investigation revealed that the helicopter lost power during a sightseeing tour from the State Fairgrounds in Palmer.  The pilot successfully executed an emergency landing in an empty field, but the helicopter suffered significant damage on landing.  The pilot and two passengers walked away with no observable injuries although the passengers were later transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center as a precaution.  The FAA and NTSB have been notified.
