On August 17th, 2023, at approximately 2000 hours, AST responded to an assisted living home in the area Tiffany Drive in Palmer. Investigation revealed Kirstin Kaznakoff, 27-YOA, assaulted a live-in staff member while causing damage to the facility. Kirstin was arrested for Assault in the 4th Degree and Criminal Mischief in the 5th Degree. Kirstin was remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial and held without bail.

On 8/18/23, at approximately 0241 hours, the Alaska State Troopers in Wasilla contacted 23-year-old James Wheelock on a traffic stop. Investigation revealed he was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and transported to Mat-Su Pretrial where he was remanded.

Update 8/18/23 9 pm: On August 18, 2023, at 5:30 pm, two hikers located Jonas Bare on a trail approximately 200 yards from Chena Hot Springs Resort. The hikers brought Bare to the Alaska Wildlife Troopers search and rescue command post within the resort. Bare was uninjured and told Troopers that he had left Hovesepian to seek help. Bare guided Troopers and rescuers to the general area where Hovesepian was located approximately 3 miles away from the resort. Hovesepian was located by the team after calling out for her. Bare, Hovesepian, and the rescue teams returned to Chena Hot Springs Resort at 8:40 pm. EMS evaluated both Bare and Hovesepian. The Alaska Wildlife Troopers would like to thank the professional volunteer search teams and Chena Hot Springs Resort for their assistance with this operation.
Original: On August 12, 2023, the Fairbanks Police Department requested the assistance of the Alaska State Troopers on a missing persons case that originated in their area of responsibility. 50-year-old Tennessee resident Jonas Bare and 37-year-old Tennessee resident Cynthia Hovesepian were visiting Alaska and had not made their return flight nor contacted family. FPD Officers located the couple’s luggage still at their Fairbanks accommodations. Alaska State Troopers and Alaska Wildlife Troopers began investigating leads across Interior Alaska. On the evening of August 12, 2023, Troopers located the couple’s vehicle at Chena Hot Springs Resort. Troopers launched a search and rescue operation in the area and have been actively searching the area with helicopters, sUAS, ATVs, professional search and rescue teams, and K9 teams. Search efforts are ongoing. Troopers would like to thank the Chena Hot Springs Resort, Wilderness Search and Rescue, and PAWS rescue dogs for their ongoing assistance.

On 08/17/2023, at about 2012, Alaska State Troopers arrested Richard Henzler of Fairbanks on a No Bail Bench Warrant to serve jail time for the original charge of DUI. Richard was remanded to Fairbanks Correctional Facility without incident.

On August 18, 2023 at about 2000 hours, Alaska State Troopers contacted Floyd Gene, age 75 of Tetlin, near Tok. Gene was subsequently arrested for Disorderly Conduct and held until sober when he could be released on his own recognizance in accordance with the statewide bail schedule.

On 08/18/2023 at 1826 hours the Alaska State Troopers were called to Fairchild Ave for a disturbance. an investigation showed that Caleb Howard was not supposed to be at the residence. He also scared his mother with a screwdriver. Caleb was remanded at FCC for VCOR, Assault 3rd and Harassment in the 1st.

On 08/18/2023 at approximately 5:44pm, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of single motor vehicle collision at mile 31 of Chena Hot Springs Road. EMS responded to the location and provided medical services to the driver, who was subsequently transported to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
