On August 30, 2024, at approximately 12:51 PM, the Alaska State Troopers (AST) in Ketchikan received a complaint about a boat running aground near Knudson Cove Marina. Both the Alaska Wildlife Troopers (AWT) and AST responded to the call. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the boat had been stolen, and the suspect was found hiding in the V-berth. Troopers boarded the boat and arrested Walter Glen Young of POW, who was found in the V-berth. Young had outstanding arrest warrants for Vehicle Theft in the 1st degree, Theft in the 2nd degree, and Failure to Appear in court. Additionally, Young was booked into Ketchikan Correctional Center (KCC) on new charges of Vehicle Theft in the 1st degree, Theft in the 2nd degree, and Criminal Mischief in the 3rd degree.

On 8/29/2024 AST came into contact with Kenneth Medders in Palmer. He was found to have 3 warrants for Failure to Remand for DUI. He was arrested on his warrants and remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial facility.

On 8/30/2024 at approximately 0605 hours, AST received a report of a domestic disturbance in Willow. Investigation revealed that Anjuschka Brown assaulted a family member. Brown also had an outstanding warrant for violating conditions of release. Brown was arrested for DV Assault 4 and the outstanding arrest warrant.

On 08/30/2024, Alaska State Troopers stopped Michael Dirks, 54, for a traffic violation. During the stop he was found to have 4 warrants for his arrest and he was driving with a revoked license. He was arrested for the four outstanding warrants and was summonsed for Driving with a Revoked License. Victoria Baergen, 54, was summonsed for Permitting Michael to drive her vehicle.

On 08/29/2024 at approximately 0833 hours, Alaska State Troopers were patrolling in the Tok area. AST observed a vehicle which was recognized to bear an expired registration a 1995 Dodge sedan bearing AK plate GHX302 expired as of 2014. A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver initially yielded and then accelerated away. A vehicle pursuit was initiated and lasted approximately less than 3 minutes. During the duration of the pursuit, the driver reached speeds in excess of 90 mph on gravel roads with poor easement visibility and disregarding Stop Signs at several intersections. The driver made a right-hand turn onto George Jr. and foot bailed into the tree line. The investigation continued and with the assistance of the Tok community the driver was identified as Joseph E. Tickett, age 25. Who is currently absconding an active Arrest Warrant 4FA-22-02315CR. Additional charges of Failure to Stop at a Direction of an Officer I, Reckless Driving, and Driving While License Revoked were submitted to the District Attorney’s Office.
Tok AST is requesting further assistance with locating Tickett.

On August 30, 2024, at approximately 1000 hours, AST responded to the area of Blue Spruce Way for a disturbance report. Investigation revealed that Thomas Saunders, age 35 of Fairbanks, had assaulted two individuals. Thomas was arrested and transported to FCC on the charges of Assault in the Third Degree and Assault in the Fourth Degree.

On 08/29/2024, at approximately 2130 hours, Coldfoot AWT contacted a group of hunters on the Dalton Highway while on patrol. Subsequent investigation led to William Norling, age 66 of Cedar Minnesota, being charged with Wanton Waste, and cited for failing to have proof of sex for big game in a sex restricted hunt. Arraignment is set in the Utqiagvik Court.

On 8/30/2024, Catherine Flores 39 YOA of Cordova, was issued a citation by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Cordova Post for Feeding Game-Black Bear. Flores left a bucket of fish bait in the back of a truck bed, feeding the bear its contents. Bail was set for $320 into the Cordova District Court.

On 8/29/2024 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Cordova Post issued a citation to Trident Seafoods (North) in Cordova for Feeding Game-Black Bears. Trident Seafoods (North) continued to have unsecured garbage in a manner that attracted sow with cubs on multiple occasions. Bail was set for $320 into the Cordova District Court.

On 08/22/2024 Kodiak AWT contacted Terry Hay, age 68 of Central Point Oregon, while he was sport fishing near Cape Chiniak. Investigation revealed that Hay’s fishing party caught and retained a total of 16 black rockfish over the group’s total daily bag limit. Hay took responsibility for the overlimit rockfish and was issued a citation for Take Overlimit of Rockfish with a fine of $440. As a reminder emergency order 2-RF-4-17-24 reduces the bag limit in this area to 5 per day, of which no more than two may be of a single rockfish species and nor more than one can be yelloweye rockfish.

In April 2024, ABI Technical Crime Unit began an investigation into David Sandbergen (age 22 of Fairbanks) for failure to register on the sex offender registry. The investigation determined that Sandbergen had failed to register various social media accounts and harassed a previous victim of his crimes. In August 2024, an arrest warrant was issued for Sandbergen, and on 08/30/24, the Alaska State Troopers Criminal Suppression Unit in Fairbanks contacted Sandbergen and arrested him on that warrant without incident. Sandbergen was remanded to Fairbanks Corrections on $10,000.00 bail.
