On 08/07/2021 at approximately 2122 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of suspicious individuals on private property. Following investigation Tearany Ohern, age 51 of Kasilof, was arrested for misconduct involving controlled substances in the fifth degree. Russell Johnson, age 40 of Kasilof, was also arrested for driving while license revoked, failing to maintain insurance, and violation of conditions of release. Both suspects were remanded at Wildwood Pretrial.

AK21089715Location: Misty FjordsType: Fatal Aircraft Crash
UPDATE: On 8/7/21, at about 1345 hours, Alaska State Troopers and Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad personnel arrived at the crash site via a chartered Temsco helicopter. The bodies were recovered and will be transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage. Next of kin have been notified. The NTSB assisted and will be investigating the cause of the crash.

Mark Henderson, age 69, of Napa, CA
Jacquelyn Komplin, age 60, of Napa, CA
Andrea McArthur, age 55, of Woodstock, GA
Rachel McArthur, age 20, of Woodstock, GA
Janet Kroll, age 77, of Mount Prospect, IL
Pilot- Rolf Lanzendorfer, age 64, of Cle Elum, WA
Original Release: On August 5, 2021, at approximately 1121 hours, the Alaska State Troopers were notified of a possible plane crash just outside of Ketchikan in the Misty Fjords area. Initial reports indicated that a Southeast Aviation De Haviland Beaver, with tail number N1249K, had five passengers and one pilot aboard and had reportedly triggered an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB.) The US Coast Guard, Alaska State Troopers, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, US Forest Service, and volunteers from the Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad responded to the area to attempt to locate the crash site. Poor visibility and deteriorating weather hampered aerial search efforts for part of the afternoon. At approximately 1437 hours, the US Coast Guard discovered the crash site in a steep mountainous area near Misty Fjords; all six occupants of the aircraft were deceased. The Alaska State Troopers and volunteers from the Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad will coordinate recovery efforts of the deceased from the crash site today and tomorrow. The NTSB has been notified and will be investigating the cause of the crash.

AK21090461Location: WasillaType: Vehicle Theft, Warrant Arrest
On August 6, 2021 at approximately 6:50pm, Alaska State Troopers in Wasilla received a report of a vehicle that had been stolen from a local residence approximately 30 minutes prior. The owner suspected that Daniel Buckwalter, 20 years old of Wasilla, stole the vehicle. Wasilla PD located the vehicle at the Wasilla Chevron at approximately 10:00pm and attempted to contact the driver, later confirmed to be Buckwalter. Buckwalter attempted to flee into the woods on foot, but was apprehended after a short foot pursuit. Buckwalter was placed under arrest and transported to Mat Su Pre Trial where he was remanded for First Degree Vehicle Theft and an existing arrest warrant (FTA OC Fail to Stop at Direction of a Peace Officer and Reckless Driving.)

AK21090492Location: WasillaType: Fail to Stop, DUI, Assault
On August 6, 2021 at approximately 9:05pm, the MATCOM Dispatch Center began receiving numerous 911 calls regarding a dangerous driver on Knik Goose Bay Road. The callers stated that the vehicle was doing circles in the roadway, running other motorists off the road and repeatedly driving into and out of the ditch. Multiple AST and Wasilla PD units responded and attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle. The vehicle did not immediately stop and continued driving recklessly, until multiple AST units were able to pin the vehicle at an intersection and bring it to a stop. Investigation revealed the driver, Laurie Hubbard age 59 of Wasilla, committed the crimes of Fail to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer, Reckless Driving, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Third Degree Assault x 3 and Fourth Degree Misconduct Involving Weapons. Laurie was remanded to Mat Su Pre Trial on the aforementioned charges.

On 08/06/2021 at approximately 1912 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of an assault off Engstrom road in Wasilla. Investigation revealed Aaron Baggette assaulted a family member of the household. Aaron was arrested for Assault in the Fourth Degree and transported to Matsu Pre-Trial where he was held without bail.

AK21089546Location: WasillaType: Burglary; Theft; Vehicle Theft; Tampering with Evidence
On 08/04/21 at 2337 hours, AST responded to a residence in Wasilla for the report of a burglary and theft of multiple household items including a firearm and a 2009 Hyundai Sonata. On 08/06/21, AST recovered the majority of the stolen items including the firearm and vehicle. The investigation resulted in the arrests of Thomas Bourasaw, age 19 of Wasilla, and Elijah Petersen, age 23 of Palmer. Both were remanded into custody at the MSPT facility in Palmer and held without bail for the original charges of Burglary in the 1st Degree, Theft in the 2nd Degree x 2 counts, Vehicle Theft in the 1st Degree, and Criminal Trespassing in the 1st Degree. Petersen was also charged with Tampering with Evidence.

On 08/07/2021 at approximately 0145 hours, the Alaska State Troopers contacted Rebecca Petersen, age 22 of Wasilla near W. Boardwalk Drive. Petersen had an outstanding warrant out for her arrest for failure to appear, original charge Unlawful Entry. Petersen was placed under arrest and transported to MSPT, where she was remanded. Bail was set a $100.00 cash appearance.

AK21089477Location: NENANAType: Assault 4th DV X2. Title 47 Transport
On 8/4/21, at 1751 hours, AST Dispatch received a report of an 11 year old boy in an active disturbance with his Mother. Nenana base Trooper and VPSO responed to the incident. Investigation determined the juvenile would be transported to FMH for Title 47 evaluation. A referral was sent to OCS and a report was sent to DOJJ for review in this matter.

On 08/05/2021, Ryan Malnar, age 40 of Colorado Springs, CO, contacted Coldfoot AWT reporting he had taken a cow caribou in GMU26B (bulls only area). Malnar was issued a citation with a mandatory court appearance in the Utqiagvik Court, and the caribou was donated to a charity.

Alaska Department of Fish and Game issued Emergency Order #21-3221 for August 7th and 8th, 2021 to open Fish Creek for a youth-only fishing event. Bail is set at $120 at the Palmer District Court.
