On June 5, 2025, at 7:25 pm, the Alaska State Troopers were notified of a multi-vehicle collision on the Sterling Highway near mile 97, just south of Kalifornsky Beach Road. Troopers and EMS responded to the scene. A preliminary investigation determined that a vehicle crossed the center line for unknown reasons and collided with two vehicles going the opposite direction. The drive of the vehicle that crossed the center line was medevaced to an Anchorage area hospital with serious injuries. The highway was closed for approximately 2.5 hours as Troopers documented and cleared the scene.
