Dispatch Text:
The Alaska Wildlife Troopers conducted a concentrated effort to combat violations related to hunting during the Sitka Blacktail Deer rut in October and November 2025. During the effort, AWT increased remote road system operations, roving vehicle and vessel patrols, and deployed artificial wildlife. In total 26 summons or citations were issued, including for taking game with artificial light, not obtaining a big game metal locking tag, shooting from inside or on a motorized land vehicle while the engine was running, failing to salvage all the meat, not having a hunting license, not validating a harvest ticket before leaving the kill site, and shooting from the roadway. Four rifles were seized, along with two flashlights and one handheld spotlight. Hunters who are caught hunting illegally at night could face fines, forfeiture of their rifles and could lose their hunting privileges for a year.
