UPDATE: On 10/15/2020 at 2000 hours AST was advised of a boating accident off the coast of Cape Nome. Pavel Denisenko, age 51, Alexie Klutchnikov, age 52, and Serhii Denysenko, age 56, were traveling back to Nome in a 32’ boat/dredge when a wave caused the boat to capsized. All three went into the water. Pavel made it to shore in a life raft. At 2345 hours the boat was located off shore. The missing men, Alexie and Serhii were not located. Ground searchers found debris from the boat on shore. The USCG searched throughout the night for the two missing men.
On 10/18/20 at 1242 hours, Nome SAR located the remains of Serhii Denysenko on the beach, approximately 7 miles East of Nome. The remains are being sent to the SME for additional examination. Alexei has not been located. Next of Kin has been notified.
On 10/15/2020 at approximately 2001 hours, Alaska State Troopers in Nome received a call regarding a Search and Rescue regarding a shipwreck at Cape Nome. One person was recovered, and two more were still missing. Nome Fire Department dispatched a rescue boat. Rescue operations ongoing.
