UPDATE 1/11: Upon further investigation, 27-year-old Emmonak resident Rudolf Waska and 34-year-old Emmonak resident Darren Hootch, planned on January 1, 2021 to commit a robbery against 39-year-old Emmonak resident Brian Agwiak, by taking alcohol from him while he was in his residence.  After gaining entry to Agwiak’s residence, Hootch threatened Agwiak with a copper pipe.  Agwiak claimed he had no alcohol and demanded Hootch and Waska leave his residence.  Waska used his fists to beat Agwiak unconscious and continued beating Agwiak which resulted in his death.  Hootch and Waska didn’t seek medical attention and didn’t notify law enforcement until questioned.  Waska was initially arrested on 01/03/2021 on Murder II and Assault I charges.  Upon further investigation, Hootch was arrested on 01/10/2021 in Emmonak on an arrest warrant.  Waska and Hootch are now being held on Murder II x 2, Robbery I x 2, Assault I x 2, Burglary I x 2, Tampering with Physical Evidence x 2, Assault III charges among others.  Waska’s bail was set for $100,000 and Hootch’s was set for $50,000.

Original 1/4: At approximately 0325 hours on January 1, 2021, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a deceased male at a residence in Emmonak. Troopers from Emmonak responded and located 39-year-old Brian Agwiak of Emmonak, deceased in his residence.  Investigators from the Alaska Bureau of Investigation and Forensic Scientists from the State of Alaska Crime Lab responded to the scene to investigate.  Investigation revealed that 27-year-old Rudolf Waska of Emmonak, assaulted Brian Agwiak until he was unconscious and then continued to assault him further.  Agwiak later died a short time after the assault.  Results from the State Medical Examiner are still pending.  Waska was arrested and arraigned on charges of Murder in the 2nd Degree and Assault in the 1st Degree.  Waska is being held on a $100,000 cash performance bail.
