Original 1/12: On 1/12/21 at approximately 1333 hours, the Soldotna Public Safety Communications Center received reports of a vehicle versus road grader collision on the Seward Highway. Alaska State Troopers responded to the scene. A preliminary investigation revealed a 2019 Volkswagen Golf was traveling North on the Seward Highway near milepost 30 at a high rate of speed. The Volkswagen then struck the rear end of a State of Alaska DOT&PF road grader that was actively plowing. The driver of the Volkswagen was declared deceased at the scene. There were no injuries to the DOT&PF road grader operator. Both vehicles will need to be towed from the scene. It appears alcohol was a contributing factor to the collision. The driver of the Volkswagen was not wearing a seat belt. The driver will be identified once next of kin have been notified.
