On Sunday, May 23, 2021, Alaska State Troopers in Bethel were notified by Tuntutuliak Tribal Police Officers that 22-year-old Tuntutuliak Resident David Bunyan was missing. Bunyan was last seen on Friday, May 21 delivering groceries, and failed to return to work later in the evening. Tuntutuliak Tribal Police Officers and other residents had searched the village but were not successful in locating him. Alaska State Troopers attempted to locate Bunyan using his cell phone, but efforts were not successful. As the ground search efforts continued on Monday, Bunyan was located deceased in a wooded area just outside of Tuntutuliak. No foul play is suspected. The remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner for further examination. Next of kin have been notified.
