On 07/18/2021 at approximately 0235 hours, Alaska State Troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a motorcycle near Pittman and Karen Streets in Wasilla. Investigation revealed the driver, later identified as Charles Steward of Wasilla, failed to stop for Troopers for approximately 6 minutes. Troopers ended the pursuit in the interest of public safety, however, Steward continued to drive recklessly. Steward ultimately collided with an ATV on the edge of the Roadway near Pittman and Sunrise. Both Steward and the ATV rider sustained serious injury and were transported to a local hospital. Steward has been charged with Assault II, Eluding I, DWLR, and a slew of moving violations.
