Update 7/28: At approximately 1800 hours on July 27, 2021, volunteers from the Alaska Mountain Rescue Group and HELO 3 recovered the deceased from a steep, mountainous area of Eagle River Valley. The deceased are identified as 23-year-old Anchorage resident Dakota Bauder and 27-year-old Hawaii resident McKenna Vierra. Next of kin has been notified. The NTSB will be conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash.
Original: On 07/26/21 at approximately 2009 hours, AKRCC was notified of an overdue aircraft that had taken off from an Anchorage airport. It was believed the aircraft had gone up the Knik River Valley toward the Knik Glacier and Lake George before heading into Chugach State Park. AKRCC dispatched CAP aircraft to survey the area in addition to a number of good Samaritan aircraft. At approximately 2243 hours, a good Samaritan spotted wreckage and was able to land nearby. The occupants of the overdue aircraft were discovered to be deceased. Recovery efforts will begin this morning. Next of kin are being notified.
