Update 8/16: The occupants of the pickup truck have been identified as Gary Witt, age 69 of Anchorage, and Cynthia Witt, age 62 of Anchorage. Next of kin has been notified. The Alaska State Troopers are still working on identifying and notifying the next of kin for the driver and sole occupant of the compact car. The investigation continues.

Original: On August 15, 2021, at approximately 1458 hours, the Alaska State Troopers were notified of a head-on motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles at mile 87 of the Parks Highway. Alaska State Troopers and first responders responded to the scene. A preliminary investigation revealed that a compact car with a single occupant was attempting to pass in a no-pass zone and struck a pickup truck with two occupants head-on. Both vehicles were fully engulfed in flames, and all three individuals were declared deceased at the scene. The investigation is ongoing. Next of kin notifications are ongoing. The Parks Highway was closed from approximately 1458 hours until 2100 hours. Both lanes are open at this time.
