Update: On 10/18/21 at 1140 hours, a SEADOGS team located Dalton deceased approximately 2.5 miles from his vehicle. It appears that Dalton succumbed to the elements. Dalton’s body is being transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage for autopsy. Next of kin has been notified.

On 10/16/21 at 1927 hours, AST received a report that David Dalton, age 55 of Kake, had gone missing. Dalton was last seen on 10/15/21 at approximately 1230 hours. Dalton was wearing all black clothing and had a backpack. On 10/16/21 Dalton’s pickup was located near Sitkum Creek. Local Search and Rescue teams attempted a search of the immediate area around the vehicle and located some items belonging to Dalton approximately 50 yards from the vehicle. United States Coast Guard conducted a search of 2 square miles using the helicopter and FLIR device. There was report of a possible flare sighting near the T-Junction and the landfill. USCG helicopter was unable to locate any signs of people in the area. The local SAR team was also unable to locate any person’s in the area where the flare was seen. Seadogs are flying two K-9 teams to Kake to continue the search. Members of Sitka Mountain Rescue is also assisting with the search.
