On Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at 2:11 pm, the Alaska State Troopers were notified of a vehicle colliding with a dog team on the Parks Highway near Willow. An Alaska State Trooper responded to the scene. A preliminary investigation revealed that the dog team was navigating a trail along the Parks Highway at mile 75 when the dog team moved on to the roadway as it was navigating an obstacle on the trail. A vehicle traveling on the highway collided with the dog team. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and assisted the musher and dog team along with numerous good samaritans. Two dogs received injuries and were transported by the musher, along with the rest of the team, to a Wasilla area veterinarian for care. One dog died at the scene, and another dog ran off into the woods after the collision. No humans were injured in the collision. No criminal charges or citations have been issued.
