Released on behalf of our partners at the Metlakatla Police Department.

On April 22nd, 2023, at approximately 0135 hours, the Metlakatla Police Department responded to a motor vehicle hit-and-run collision involving pedestrians on Hillcrest Avenue in Metlakatla. The collision involved three pedestrians being struck by a white in color SUV. The three pedestrians were identified as two adult males and a juvenile child. An officer drove up on the scene just after the collision. The officer saw the struck pedestrians, called for help, and attempted immediate life-saving measures. All three pedestrians were transported by the Metlakatla Police Department and the Metlakatla Volunteer Fire Department to the Annette Islands Service Unit's Emergency Room. One of the adult males and the juvenile child succumbed to their injuries as a result of the collision. MPD was able to locate the suspect vehicle at a nearby residence.

On May 2nd, 2023, the Ketchikan Court issued an arrest warrant for the person of Alecia Henderson (age 27 of Palmer) for two counts of Murder in the Second Degree, two counts of Manslaughter, one count of Assault in the Third Degree, one count of Driving Under the Influence and one count of Driving with License Cancelled/Suspended/Revoked. Henderson was located at a residence in Metlakatla and placed under arrest by Metlakatla Police Department without incident. Henderson was transported and remanded to Ketchikan Correctional Center and held on a $250,000 bail.
