US Fish and Wildlife Officers responded to an overturned canoe in the area of Schooner Bend on the Upper Kenai River. The two occupants of the canoe, identified as Carmen Rao, age 36 of ID, and Joel Salvino, age 32 of AK, were able to get to an island safely. USFW officers Harvey and Burns were able to successfully rescue the men and assist in retrieving the canoe. Alaska Wildlife Troopers managed the SAR efforts.
