UPDATE 2/13/24: In coordination with the Alaska Department of Law, 48-year-old Minnesota resident Erik Johnson and Polaris Inc. have been charged with a single charge of Reckless Driving for operating a motor vehicle in a manner which created a substantial and unjustifiable risk of harm to a person or property. 

ORIGINAL: On December 11, 2023, at 5:38 pm, the Alaska State Troopers were notified that a snowmachine had collided with a sled dog team approximately two miles east of Cantwell along the Denali Highway. Three dogs were killed*, one dog were injured, and no humans were injured in the collision. The snowmachine operator stopped to render aid and has been contacted by Troopers. The Alaska State Troopers are actively investigating the incident. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor. At this time, no arrests have been made or citations issued.

*This release has been updated to reflect that three dogs were killed, and one injured.
