Update: Alaska State Troopers, Deputy State Fire Marshals, and Village Public Safety Officers recovered the remains of six individuals in the burned residential structure. It is believed that one adult female and five children were in the residence at the time of the fire. The remains are being sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage for positive identification. It appears that the fire started near the Toyo stove that was reported to be in poor condition, however the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. Next of kin notification efforts are ongoing.  

On January 24, 2024, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a structure fire at a residence in the village of Noorvik. The structure was reported to be a total loss and the residents are unaccounted for. Troopers, VPSO, and Deputy State Fire Marshals have responded to Noorvik. This is an active and ongoing investigation.
