ORIGINAL:

On January 24, 2024, Alaska Wildlife Troopers stationed in Bethel contacted Gilbert McIntyre, age 37 of Bethel, regarding his 2023 moose hunt in GMU 18 Remainder. Further investigation revealed McIntyre and Arthur Abalama, age 33 of Bethel, flew to a remote area, near the Devil's Elbow on the Yukon River, on October 2, 2023. On October 3, 2023, they took an antlered bull moose and continued hunting the following day. When the hunt concluded, the moose and rack were transported back to Bethel in two super cubs. The season for antlered moose in GMU 18 Remainder was from August 1-September 30, 2023. McIntyre and Abalama were each issued citations for hunting during a closed season and unlawful possession/transportation of game. The moose rack was seized as evidence of the crime. Arraignment is set for February 8, 2024, in the Bethel Court.
