On June 5, 2024, at 1:18pm, the Alaska State Trooper’s Child Abuse Investigations Unit received a report that a juvenile had been sexually abused. Troopers determined through an extensive investigation that 18-year-old Wasilla resident John Gutierrez had sexually abused a juvenile in the Mat-Su Valley. On December 19, 2024, an arrest warrant was issued for Gutierrez for Sexual Assault in the First Degree and Attempted Sexual Assault in the First Degree. On December 19, 2024, Gutierrez was arrested on the warrant and remanded to Mat Su Pre Trial by Palmer Judicial Services.
