UPDATE 8/12: On August 1, 2024, at 5:30 pm, Alaska State Troopers received a report of human remains found on the shore of the Egegik River near Egegik. AST and AWT responded in a state aircraft, recovered the remains, and sent them to the State Medical Examiner's Office. The body has been positively identified by the State Medical Examiner's Office as 36-year-old Washington state resident Clayton Hoy. Next of kin have been notified.
ORIGINAL: On July 25, 2024, at 7:10 am, Alaska State Troopers were notified of a man overboard in the commercial fishery near Egegik. It was reported that 36-year-old Clayton Hoy from Washington State had gone overboard from a fishing vessel. The USCG was in the vicinity and began a water and air search of the area. Multiple aircraft to include rotary and fixed wing aircraft as well as large and small vessels from the Coast Guard, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, and Good Samaritans heavily searched the Egegik River without any results. On July 26, 2024, at 2pm, active search efforts were discontinued. Next of kin was notified. The Alaska State Troopers would like to thank the US Coast Guard, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, and the countless Good Samaritans who aided in this search.
