UPDATE 3/20/25: As a result of a thorough investigation by the Alaska Bureau of Investigation’s Western Major Crimes Unit, Troopers determined that Kari’s death was a result of a homicide. 28-year-old Napakiak resident Allen Amik was arrested on March 20, 2025, and remanded to Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center on charges of Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree, Assault in the Fourth Degree, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and purchasing of alcohol from a non-licensee in a local option village.

ORIGINAL: On December 22, 2024, at 4:21 am, the Alaska State Troopers were notified of an unexpected death in Napakiak. Patrol Troopers from Bethel and Investigators from the Alaska Bureau of Investigation responded. 27-year-old Napakiak resident Kari Nicholai* was located deceased, and evidence at the scene suggests that the death is suspicious in nature. Her body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. Next of kin have been notified. The Alaska Bureau of Investigation has assumed case responsibility and is continuing to investigate Kari’s death.
