On July 14, 2025, at 10:58pm, Alaska State Troopers received a report of an adult male firing a weapon in a residence in Napakiak. Initial investigation revealed 27-year-old John Rickteroff of Napakiak fired what was reported to be a long gun inside of the residence, causing an adult female and 33-year-old Clarence Rickteroff, of Napakiak, to flee the residence in fear. Upon AST arrival, it was learned that Clarence had returned to the residence and was also inside. As the troopers sought cover, a single gunshot was heard originating from the residence. Clarence eventually exited the residence, leaving John alone inside. SWAT responded and used special tactics to dislodge John from the residence. John and Clarence were both arrested, transported to Bethel, and remanded to YKCC. John Rickteroff is charged with two counts of Assault 3, Misconduct Involving Weapons (MIW) 2, and MIW4. Clarence Rickteroff is charged with one count of Assault 3, Reckless Endangerment, and MIW 4.
