UPDATE, 1:30 p.m. Dec. 29, 2025: The human remains were positively identified as 60-year-old Maria Cellarius. Her next of kin was notified.

UPDATE, Dec. 29, 2025: On Dec. 27, 2025, human remains were located at the scene. The remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for positive identification. The investigation into the origin and cause of the fire is ongoing.

ORIGINAL: On Dec. 25, 2025, Alaska State Troopers received a report around 2:15 a.m. about a structure fire on the McCarthy Road. The residence had fully burned by the time troopers reached the scene. One adult male was transported by medics to a hospital for injuries and one adult is unaccounted for. Alaska Fire Marshals responded to the scene to investigate the origin and cause of the fire. That investigation is ongoing.
