On April 28, 2026, at approximately 0915 hours, the Alaska State Troopers responded to the area of Behm Canal east of Ketchikan for a deceased person. Investigation revealed that Michael Austin, 51 years old of Derby Kansas, passed away due to medical complications from a known condition. Next of kin was notified and the deceased was released to the Ketchikan mortuary to make arrangements with the family.
