On June 21, 2026, around 9:30 pm, the Alaska State Troopers were notified that an inmate at the Anchorage Correctional Center had died at an Anchorage area hospital. The Alaska Bureau of Investigation responded and began an investigation into the death. A preliminary investigation determined that 31-year-old Anchorage resident Brandon Wright was on a video visitation when he collapsed around 7:15 pm. ACC staff began medical care, and he was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where he was declared deceased. His body was sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy and his next of kin have been notified. While the investigation is active and ongoing, at this time foul play is not suspected.
