Type: Failure to Stop at Direction of Peace Officer in the 1st Degree, Assault 3rd Degree, Reckless Endangerment, Reckless Driving

On 09/03/2026 at about 2139 hours, the Alaska State Troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Blue Honda for a moving violation at about mile 9 of the North Tongass Highway.  The driver of the Honda failed to yield and was observed driving recklessly as it continued northbound and accelerated at a high rate of speed.  The driver loss control of the vehicle at about mile 17 of the North Tongass Highway and went over a small embankment and into the ditch.  The driver was identified as Brian Burns, age 18 of Ketchikan.  Burns was ultimately transported to PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center for suspected minor injuries. Two passengers were also inside the vehicle and reported no injuries. Burns was later issued traffic citations for Speeding 20+ over the speed limit, Passing in a No Passing Zone, and Driving left of Center.  Criminal charges are also being forwarded to the District Attorneys Office.
