On September 15, 2026, at 10:38 am, the Alaska State Troopers received a report that a juvenile female had been sexually assaulted in the summer of 2025. On September, 17, 2026, WMCU assumed case responsibility. With the assistance of the Fairbanks Rural Unit, investigation revealed that between May 2024 and February 2026, Marshall resident Kaylen Shorty, now 23-years-old, sexually abused and assaulted the victim, in Marhsall, on multiple occasions. On October 17, 2026, Shorty was arrested in Marshall without incident and remanded to YKCC on the charges of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the 1st Degree, two counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the 2nd Degree, Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the 3rd Degree, Sexual Assault in the 1st Degree, Sexual Assault in the 2nd Degree, and Harassment in the 1st Degree.
