Next of Kin notifications have been completed. The people on board the plane were pilot Cabot Pitts, age 42 of Palmer, and passenger Connor Helsel, age 18 of Michigan.

On September 17, 2026, at 7:51 pm, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a fatal plane crash in the Nabesna area. A Piper Cub carrying two occupants crashed after taking off from a dirt airstrip. Both occupants have been confirmed deceased. Once next of kin have been notified, the names of the deceased will be released. The NTSB has been notified, and they will investigate the cause of the crash.
