On October 24, 2026, at 2:41 pm, the Alaska State Troopers received a report that a woman in Saxman was found not breathing. Troopers and South Tongass Volunteer Fire Department EMS responded to the residence and found 75-year-old Saxman resident Ann McEachern not breathing. Life-saving measures were taken but were unsuccessful and McEachern was pronounced deceased at the scene. The State Medical Examiner’s Office was contacted and McEachern's remains were released to the family. Next of kin was on scene. No foul play is suspected.
