On October 25, 2026, at 4:50 am, the Alaska State Troopers received a report from the Shungnak clinic that 23-year-old Shungnak resident Jacob Foster had shot an adult male. The village of Shungnak was reported to be on lockdown. The victim was waiting to be medevacked for non-life-threatening injuries. Foster’s whereabouts were unknown. Troopers responded to Shungnak and located Foster in a wooded area, took him into custody without incident and remanded him to Kotzebue Regional Jail, on the charges of Assault in the 1st Degree and Misconduct Involving a Weapon. The investigation is ongoing.
