  • AK19074923

    Location: Kenai Peninsula
    Type: Import/Release Live Fish

    Dispatch Text:

On 4-22-20 Ace Clark, age 33 of Anchorage, was issued a summons to appear in court for importing live fish and releasing them into the waters of Alaska without a permit.  The Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Wildlife Investigations Unit, began investigating Clark in October 2019 after it was found he had imported live rainbow trout from a fish distributor in Oregon.  The investigation revealed that in June of 2019 Clark had 144 fish shipped to Alaska which were later released into a closed lake on the Kenai Peninsula just south of Soldotna for purposes of stocking.  The importing and releasing of live fish into the waters of Alaska can lead to devastating effects on the environment and irreversible harm to native species.  Over the last few years, several species of non-native fish including muskellunge, largemouth bass, fathead minnows, and goldfish have been illegally introduced to state waters. Release of non-native fish for the purpose of illegal stocking has been an on-going problem with northern pike for decades. No person may transport, possess, export from the state, or release into the waters of the state, any live fish unless the person holds a fish transport permit issued by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.  To report incidences of illegal transport and release of live fish in Alaska, please contact your local office of the Alaska Wildlife Troopers.  Importing and releasing live fish is a Class A misdemeanor and arraignment in this case is scheduled for 5/28/20 in the District Court at Kenai.
