On 10/11/23 at 1038 hours, Troopers responded to a disturbance which occurred at a business in Sterling. An investigation showed Connie Long-Soares, 56 of Anchorage, had assaulted a non-family member during the disturbance. Long-Soares was given a summons to appear and released.

On 10/12/2023 at approximately 1838 hours, the Alaska State Troopers in Wasilla received a report of a vehicle theft in progress. The complainant reported he found two males driving away from his property on Shoreline Drive towing his boat. Troopers located the vehicle and contacted the two males who were identified as 34-year-old James Oliveri and 35-year-old George Ante. Investigation revealed they trespassed on the complainant's property, stole the boat and then removed their license plate in an attempt to avoid being identified. Both James and George were arrested and remanded at Mat-Su Pre-Trial on charges of Vehicle Theft I, Theft II, and Criminal Trespass I.

On 10/11/23, at approximately 1933 hours, Alaska State Troopers, Palmer Post, were dispatched to a request for a welfare check on a man standing on the Moose Creek bridge on the Glenn Highway. AST responded and was unable to locate the man, but contacted a vehicle parked at the gate for the Moose Creek Campground. Subsequent investigation revealed the sole occupant of the vehicle, Jessica Stanton, age 44 of Valdez, was in possession of approximately one ounce of methamphetamine, and a small amount of heroin, and was travelling back to Valdez. Stanton was arrested for Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree and 5th Degree. She was transported to MSPT where she was held without bail.

UPDATE: On October 12, 2023, at 5:45 pm, volunteer Search and Rescue personnel recovered the body of Joseph Martin, age 30 of Atmautluak. Martin was the only person known to be missing as part of this search and rescue incident. Next of kin has been notified. AST would like to thank the local search groups who were involved and integral in this recovery effort.
On October 11, 2023, at 4:40 pm, Alaska State Troopers were notified of a watercraft collision on the Kuskokwim River near the village of Oscarville. Investigation determined that a 285-foot barge was being towed by a 119-foot tugboat when a 14-foot skiff operated by Henry Alexie, age 22 of Atmautluak, ran into the rear of the barge and is deceased. Crew members of the barge recovered Alexie from the water and attempted life saving measures but were unsuccessful. It is believed there may have been a second individual in the skiff with Alexie. SAR efforts are underway searching the river, as well as investigative efforts to confirm that a second person was in fact in the skiff. Next of kin has been notified. Investigation is ongoing.

On 10/11/2023 at approximately 2000 hours, the Fairbanks Criminal Suppression Unit located Robert VanReenan, 59, of Fairbanks. VanReenan had an outstanding no bail, serve time now felony arrest warrant for Failure tor Report to Jail for 1 count of Misconduct Involving Weapons 3rd Degree-Altering Serial Number, 1 count of Misconduct Involving Weapons 3rd Degree - Felon in Possession, and 1 count Theft 2nd Degree-Theft of Firearm (ref. 4FA-20-00748CR).
VanReenan was apprehended by CSU and remanded to the Fairbanks Correctional Center without incident.

On 10/11/2023 at approximately 1914 hours AST Fairbanks received a report of an assault at FCC. Troopers learned Justin Lucas (25) assaulted a fellow inmate. Lucas also took property from them without intended to give it back. Charges are being forwarded to the DA's office.

On October 12, 2023, at 4:00 pm, Alaska State Troopers in Fairbanks received a notice from the Fourth Judicial District court to take protective custody of an individual. Because of prior statements made by the individual, the Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) responded. AST SERT was able to successfully take the individual into custody and transport him to a local hospital.

On 10/12/2023, AWT received a report of a harvest of a sub-legal bull moose. Investigation revealed that Seth Marrs age 39 of Ketchikan, had harvested a bull moose with a sub-legal antler configuration. Marrs was issued a misdemeanor citation to appear with an arraignment date of 11/14/2023 in the Petersburg District Court.
