    On July 6, 2023, at 4:00 am, Alaska State Troopers received a report that the Fritz Creek General Store in Homer was on fire. It was reported that no one was inside of the building when AST received the report. Kachemak Emergency Services (KESA), Homer Fire Department (HFD) and Western Emergency Services (WES) responded to the scene. The store, which also contained a Post Office, is suspected to be a total loss due to the damage caused by the fire. The Alaska State Fire Marshal’s Office is conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire. Investigation is ongoing.

    On 07/05/2023 at approximately 1728 hours, Soldotna AST, along with Central Emergency Services, received a report of a structure fire at 50705 Sterling Highway in Kasilof. Upon arrival, it was determined that the structure was a total loss, and the only known resident was unaccounted for. The initial investigation revealed the residence's owner was located nearby, seeking shelter under a nearby RV and treated for minor injuries. The investigation did not reveal criminal or suspicious activity.

    On 7/5/2023, at approximately 1810 hours, AST responded to residence on Hollywood Road near Conover Circle in Big Lake for a follow up investigation. AST contacted John Nicholson, age 39 of Eagle River. Investigation revealed that John had four firearms in possession while being a convicted felon. John was arrested and transported to Matsu Pretrial where he was remanded and held without bail.

    Type: Vehicle Theft 1st, Theft 2nd, False Information

    On 7/5/23, at approximately 2047 hours, Alaska State Troopers, Palmer Post, received a 911 report of a dangerous driver headed southbound on the Glenn Highway near mile post 69.  AST responded and was able to locate the vehicle, a 2011 Toyota Sienna, empty on the shoulder of the road.  AST confirmed the vehicle had been recently stolen in Anchorage. A short while later AST received a report of a man just down the road who had approached a residence requesting medical attention.  AST responded and contacted the male who provided a false name. The male was also found to be in possession of items that had been in the Sienna.  Through investigation, AST was able to determine the man was Jacob Sliwinksi, age 26, and that he had stolen the van previously.  Sliwinski was placed under arrest for vehicle theft 1st degree, theft 2nd degree, and false information.  He was transported to MSPT there he was held without bail.

    On 05/02/23, Court Services Officers assigned to Palmer Judicial Services arrested Abraham Foytik, age 24 from Wasilla.  Foytik had an active warrant for his arrest on the charge of Theft in the 4th degree. Foytik was remanded to Mat Su Pretrial.

    Update 7/6/23: On June 27, 2023, at 4:23 pm, the Alaska State Troopers were notified that an adult female was located on the Yukon River approximately 30 miles upriver from Emmonak. Troopers and US Fish and Wildlife Officers responded to the location and located a deceased Alaska Native adult female. Her body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office, and she has been presumptively identified as 40-year-old Marshall resident Kimberly O’Domin. The preliminary investigation by the Alaska State Troopers, and confirmed by the State Medical Examiner's Office, determined that Kimberly died from drowning. There has been no corroborated evidence of foul play located by Troopers that responded initially or investigators from the Alaska Bureau of Investigation that have been investigating for weeks. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Kimberly’s death is still active and ongoing.     Original: On June 16, 2023, Alaska State Troopers in Bethel received a report that Kimberly O’Domin, age 40 of Marshall, was missing in Marshall, Alaska. O’Domin was last seen sometime late on June 15, 2023 or early June 16th, 2023. Members of the community including the VPO’s from Marshall performed a search of the river, the surrounding area with no sign of O’Domin, however search efforts are continuing. Anyone with information about O’Domin’s location is asked to contact the Alaska State Troopers at 907-438-2019. At this time AST is not investigating this as a criminal incident.

    On July 6, 2023 Troopers contacted Richard Simms during a traffic stop in North Pole. Investigation revealed Richard was operating a motor vehicle without a valid drivers license. His license is currently revoked and he has a previous conviction of driving while revoked in June 2022. Richard is being charged with one count of Driving while license revoked.

    On 07/05/2023 at about 1640 hours Adult Probations conducted a routine check on probationer Audra Hamilton, age 30 of Delta Junction at her residence. Hamilton provided a urinary analysis which was positive for methamphetamine. During the contact with Hamilton, Probation Officers discovered Hamilton was possessing what appeared to be methamphetamine on her person. The drugs were turned over to the Alaska State Troopers for investigation which revealed Hamilton was in fact possessing methamphetamine while already having a previous recent conviction for possession. Hamilton was arrested for her probation violation as well as a felony charge of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree. Hamilton was remanded to FCC in Fairbanks without incident.

    On 07/05/2023 at approximately 2315 hours, Nenana AST and VPSO responded to the area of Tonsona Rd, Nenana for a report of a disturbance. Investigation showed Eric Chaney, 22 of Nenana, attempted to fight multiple family members and damaged property inside the family residence. Eric was arrested for Criminal Mischief 5th and Disorderly Conduct x2 and transported to Fairbanks Correctional Center. Eric was held without bail. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor.

    On July 5, 2023 at about 3:35 PM, Alaska State Troopers in Tok responded to the report of a possible DVPO violation committed near Tok. After reviewing evidence and interviewing multiple involved parties and witnesses from both sides, Troopers found no evidence and no statements showing a crime had actually occurred.

    On July 1, 2023, William Faulkner, 45 years old from Kasilof, Alaska was cited by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers during the Bristol Bay Salmon Enforcement Program for commercial fishing closed waters in the Nushagak District. Arraignment is scheduled in Dillingham District Court on July 31, 2023.

Arraignment is scheduled for the Dillingham District Court on July 31, 2023.

    UPDATE: On July 16, 2023, at approximately 3:00 pm, a group of rafters on the Chulitna River discovered the body of John George approximately 7.5 air miles down river from the original search location. A Fairbanks Alaska Wildlife Trooper and Helo-2 responded and recovered the remains of John George. His remains were then transported back to Fairbanks and released to the funeral home. Next of kin has been notified.

    On July 5, 2023, at 1:06 pm, Alaska State Troopers received a report of an emergency activation of a Garmin device. A party of five rafters in two rafts reported that one of the rafts had overturned in the Chulitna River and one 70-year-old male was reported to be missing, last seen in the river. AST and AWT Troopers responded on foot from approximately mile 182 of the Parks Highway. Helo 2 responded from Fairbanks and four rafters were rescued. John George, age 70 from Barrow, Alaska, remains missing. All persons were wearing life jackets. Search efforts for John George are continuing.

    On 7/6/2023, at about 1510 hours, Alaska State Troopers assigned to the Alaska Bureau of Investigations stopped a 2001 Subaru Forrester for speeding, passing unsafely and tailgating on the Glenn Highway near milepost 28.  The driver, Benjamin VanHoose, age 21 of Soldotna, was driving on a Revoked license.  VanHoose was issued a Summons for Driving While License Revoked with a mandatory court date and released at the scene.

    In July of 2023, Alaska State Troopers received a report that, Seth Burchwell (27 years old of Fort Wainwright), had sexually abused a minor. Fairbanks ABI conducted an investigation into the allegations. On April 18, 2024, a Fairbanks Grand Jury indicted Burchwell on one count of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the 1st Degree and an arrest warrant was issued. On April 19, 2024, Fairbanks Patrol, with the assistance of Army CID, arrested Burchwell on his outstanding warrant and remanded him to FCC.
