    Dispatch Text:

On 12/21/24 at approximately 0200 hours, the Alaska State Troopers in Wasilla received a report of a disturbance between two people in a moving vehicle. The caller was heard screaming and begging to be allowed out of the vehicle. Troopers located the vehicle on the Parks Highway near Hawk Lane. When troopers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled at a high rate of speed. Troopers lost sight of the vehicle but located it approximately five minutes later and stopped it. This time, the initial caller was driving. Investigation revealed the passenger, 28-year-old Billy Godwin, had been the driver when the vehicle fled. When troopers initially lost sight of the vehicle, he'd stopped and coerced the passenger (a household member), to drive. Prior to Billy fleeing, he had assaulted the household member and took the phone from them when they tried to call for help. Billy was also driving on a revoked driver's license and was operating while under the influence of alcohol. Billy was arrested and charged with Assault in the Fourth Degree, Interference with the Report of a DV Crime, Failure to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer, Felony DUI, Felony Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test, Driving with License Revoked, and Coercion. He was remanded with no bail at Mat-Su Pre-Trial and his vehicle was impounded.
