On 02/15/2026 at approximately 2316 hours, the Alaska State Troopers responded to a residence in Wasilla reference a trespass. Upon arrival, Troopers noticed the trespasser had signs on injuries. Investigation revealed Matthew Morgan, age 50 of Wasilla, had assaulted a household member. On February 15, 2026, Alaska State Troopers responded to a residence near mile 116 of the Richardson Highway for a reported disturbance. No criminal activity was identified; however, a male at the scene was experiencing a mental health crisis. Other family members were safely removed from the residence. Due to safety concerns, Troopers were unable to detain the male for an emergency mental health hold at that time. Troopers and family members departed, leaving the male at the residence. On February 16, 2026, the male was detained at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks and transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for an emergency mental health hold.

On February 16, 2026, at approximately 1556 hours, the Alaska State Troopers in Soldotna received a Garmin Inreach Activation in the Summit Lake area coming from Mt. Fresno. It was reported a 43-year-old Female backcountry skier fell and injured her ankle and knee. The female is stable, and the injury is non-life threatening. Bear Creek Fire, Moose Pass Fire, and Cooper Landing EMS are in the area with snowmachines and a litter to get the female off the Mountain. Female was successfully rescued off the Mt.

UPDATE 2/16: On February 16, 2026, at around 12:30 pm, a Bethel-based Alaska Army National Guard helicopter was able to land, and Guardsmen snowshoed through waist-deep snow to rescue Akaran. Akaran sustained minor injuries and was transported to Bethel.
ORIGINAL: On 02/15/2026 at approximately 0900 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers in St. Mary’s were notified that Grant Akaran, age 31, of Pilot Station, was overdue. Akaran had departed Pilot Station on 02/14/2026 at approximately 0900 hours on a 2019 Ski-Doo snowmachine and was traveling up the Chuilnak River to hunt for moose sheds. Akaran did not return as scheduled.
The Alaska Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) was contacted, and an RCC helicopter was dispatched to the area to conduct an aerial search.
Search efforts are ongoing.
