On 6/4/25 at 2011 hours, Troopers responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Diamond Ridge Road at the intersection with the Sterling Highway. An investigation showed Emilie Springer, 47 of Homer, had turned from the Sterling Highway onto Diamond Ridge Road. Springer made a wide turn and struck a vehicle being driven by John Hamilton, 29 of Homer, which stopped at the stop sign. Further investigation showed Springer was under the influence of alcohol and she was arrested and remanded into the Homer Jail.

On 06/05/2025 at approximately 1457 hours Glennallen AST conducted a traffic stop for a moving violation at mile 120 of the Richardson Highway. Investigation revealed that the driver Rylan Krier, age 21 of Gakona, was driving while under the influence of alcohol. Krier was arrested for DUI and transported to Glennallen AST post where he was released to a responsible party on his own recognizance

On 6/4/25 at 1246 hours, Cole Williams, 26 years old, was arrested for violating the terms of his probation. Williams is on Felony probation for assault in the third degree for assaulting a community member. Williams was recently reported to have fired off shots to scare a neighbor dog and then was found with two firearms in his home. He was remanded to the Fairbanks Correctional Center.

On 06/05/2025 at approximately 1148 hours, Alaska State Troopers conducted a warrant arrest service on a Shannon B. Kiehl, age 37, at her residence in the village of Tanacross. Kiehl was taken into custody without incident and brought before Tok Court where she posted bail. Kiehl was further served with a new court date and released on her own recognizance without incident.

On 06/05/2025 at approximately 1332 hours, Alaska State Troopers were conducting patrols of the Tok area. In the parking lot of the Shell gas station, I observed a blue 2015 Ford F250 bearing an Alaska plate of JTB621 pulling a flatbed trailer with lumber which was not secured. The driver was identified as Andrew F. James, age 31. Upon initial contact with James, AST observed James' minor child was not properly secured in a child safety seat. Upon further investigation AST learned that James, after several minutes into the contact was concealing a firearm on his person. James failed to inform AST of the matter (concealing a firearm) and was further detained. James was issued a citation regarding his minor child not being properly secured inside the vehicle and further advised that he is charged with Misconduct Involving Weapons in the Fifth Degree. James was released from detainment without incident.

On 06/05/2025, while checking on sport fishermen in the North Pole area, several fishermen advised AWT that their rods and reels had been stolen earlier in the week from their residence. The fishermen provided photographs of the rods and reels to AWT. Approximately 15 minutes later, the same Trooper conducted a traffic stop for multiple moving violations in the North Pole area. The Trooper observed the recently stolen rods and reels in the back of the car. The rods and reels have been returned to their rightful owners and the investigation into the theft is on-going.

On 06/02/2025, Bethel and McGrath AWT conducted a bear baiting patrol on the Gweek River in GMU 18 near Bethel. During the patrol, AWT located two unskinned beaver carcasses on a registered bear bait station. Investigation determined the beavers were shot the week prior, left to rot in a garage, then placed at the bait station by Bethel resident Ellis Johnson, at his father's bait station. Johnson received a citation for placing the unskinned beavers at the bait station. Arraignment was set for June 27, 2025, in the Bethel Court.

-On May 31, 2025, a joint effort with the Alaska Mental Health Trust Land Office and Salamatof Native Association completed the removal of trash and two unauthorized shooting areas on the Nikiski Emergency Escape Route. Approximately 17,000 lbs. of garbage and waste were removed from the two locations. Ditches and berms have been built up to limit unauthorized motor vehicle access to the area. Alaska Wildlife Troopers were instrumental in bringing this issue to the attention of the Alaska Mental Health Trust Land Office and helped coordinate the property owners in the area to clean up the unauthorized shooting range successfully.
