On August 27, 2025, at 8:30am, Alaska State Troopers were notified of a search and rescue on the Sunnahae Trail located in Craig AK. Investigation revealed William Alfaro, aged 72 of California, had collapsed on the trail while deer hunting and was not breathing and did not have a pulse. Craig EMS along with Klawock SAR had launched prior to the notification to Alaska State Troopers. Once EMS arrived on scene, Alfaro was pronounced deceased. There were no signs of trauma or foul play. Due to the terrain and remote location, a helicopter was approved and assisted in removing Alfaro from the field. The State Medical Examiner's Office was notified, and the remains were released to family. Next of kin was on scene.

On 08/28/2025, at approximately 1715 hours, AST conducted a traffic stop on a green Subaru Forester on Moat Way in Seward. Investigation revealed the driver, Dakota Bennett, age 31 from Seward, was driving with a revoked license and no liability insurance. He was issued two summonses to appear for a later court date and released on his own recognizance (with conditions).

UPDATE August 28, 2025: The State Medical Examiner's Office has positively identified the remains as 72-year-old Samuel Shavings, who was reported as an overboard boater on May 26, 2025, out of Mekoryuk. (AK25050441) Next of kin has been notified.
On August 22, 2025, at 9:00am, Alaska State Troopers received a report that beachcombers had discovered a deceased individual washed up on the shore of the Bering Sea just outside of the city limits of Nome. The decedent, dressed in winter gear, was in advanced stages of decomposition. At this time the identity of the deceased is unknown. The body is being sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office to determine positive identification. The investigation is ongoing.

On 08/28/2025, at approximately 0253 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a 911 call that Joshua Dufford (32M of Fox) had drunkenly, physically abused two adult females while at a residence in Fox. Joshua then recklessly injured an eight-month-old infant while fleeing the scene. Joshua was located approximately 2.5 miles away at a separate residence and arrested. Joshua was remanded to Fairbanks Correctional Center for one count of Assault in the Fourth Degree (DV-Fear), one count of Assault in the Fourth Degree (DV), one count of Assault in the Fourth Degree, One count of Reckless Endangerment, and One count of Domestic Violence Assault in the presence of a minor.

Update: Advisory Canceled. Oliver Moss Jr. was located deceased. AST would like to thank the public for their assistance during the search. A SILVER Alert has been activated for missing person Oliver Moss Jr, 70-years-old, of North Pole. Oliver was last seen in his vehicle at his residence on Parham McCormick Road near Plack Road in North Pole. There is concern for his safety. Oliver is a Black Male, 70 Yrs of age, Black hair, Brown eyes, 5'11" tall, and weighs 218 lbs. He is believed to be in a 1989 GMC Pickup. Red with a gray stripe.
