    On 02/14/2026 at 1406 hours the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a two-vehicle collision involving a passenger car and a semi pulling a flatbed trailer at Mile 248 Parks Highway in Healy.  There were no injuries.  The passenger car received disabling damage.  Blowing snow and the accumulation of snow on the roadway are considered to be contributing factors.  AST would like to thank an employee of Overhead Doors for their assistance in moving the vehicles to get the roadway open.

    On February 15, 2026, Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in Fairbanks after observing multiple traffic violations. The driver was identified as James Reichmann. A records check confirmed that Reichmann was operating the vehicle while still within an active revocation period and that he had previously been informed of his revoked status.


    During the contact, Reichmann told Troopers he did not believe Driving While License Revoked was a legitimate offense and stated he would continue to drive despite the revocation. Reichmann was subsequently arrested for Driving While License Revoked and transported to Fairbanks Correctional Center.

    At approximately 0500 hours on February 15, 2026, Alaska State Troopers contacted and arrested Gilbert Kanayurak on an active arrest warrant for failure to appear. Kanayurak was taken into custody without incident and transported to Fairbanks Correctional Center.

    On February 15, 2026, at about 5:20 p.m., an Alaska State Trooper stopped a blue Dodge Dakota on the Mitchell Expressway on-ramp for an obstructed license plate and a white light showing to the rear. The driver, Robert F. Long (55) of Fairbanks, admitted his license was revoked, and a records check confirmed multiple prior DWLR convictions. Long was arrested, and during a search, troopers recovered two bags of suspected methamphetamine. Both items tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine, and Long was remanded to Fairbanks Correctional Center on charges of Driving While License Revoked and Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree.

AK Wildlife Troopers

    UPDATE 2/16: On February 16, 2026, at around 12:30 pm, a Bethel-based Alaska Army National Guard helicopter was able to land, and Guardsmen snowshoed through waist-deep snow to rescue Akaran. Akaran sustained minor injuries and was transported to Bethel. 

     

    ORIGINAL: On 02/15/2026 at approximately 0900 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers in St. Mary’s were notified that Grant Akaran, age 31, of Pilot Station, was overdue. Akaran had departed Pilot Station on 02/14/2026 at approximately 0900 hours on a 2019 Ski-Doo snowmachine and was traveling up the Chuilnak River to hunt for moose sheds. Akaran did not return as scheduled.

    The Alaska Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) was contacted, and an RCC helicopter was dispatched to the area to conduct an aerial search.

    Search efforts are ongoing.

    On February 13, 2026, at 8:25 pm, the Alaska State Troopers were notified that 37-year-old Togiak resident Mason Blue was located deceased at a residence. Togiak based Troopers responded to the residence and located Blue deceased. Evidence at the scene suggested that the death was suspicious in nature. Investigators from the Alaska Bureau of Investigation and additional Troopers responded to Togiak for further investigation. Blue's body was sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy, and his next of kin have been notified. Troopers believe that they have contacted everyone involved. The investigation is active and ongoing.
