On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at approximately 2111 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a report from a local area hospital that two individuals were admitted to the emergency room after being attacked by a brown bear. The location of the attack was a quarter mile up Exit Glacier Trail in Seward. Both individuals had to fight off the bear and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The National Park Service was also notified, and the trail was closed until further notice. Local biologists, Alaska State Troopers and Alaska Wildlife Troopers will assess the area at first light. The public is advised to remain vigilant while outdoors and avoid the area for the time being.

On 9/24/2025 at approximately 1123 hours, Palmer AST responded to a motor vehicle accident on the Talkeetna Spur road. The driver of the offending vehicle left the scene before fulfilling the statutory obligations required. Through investigation, the driver was identified as Jeremy Mangione (19YOA) of Talkeetna. Jeremy was located and failed Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Jeremy was placed under arrest and remanded at Mat-Su Pretrial for driving under the influence, not fulfilling his obligations as a driver involved in an accident, and minor operating a vehicle after consuming alcohol.

On 09/23/2025 at approximately 2058 hours Glennallen AST responded to a single vehicle accident involving an ATV near approximately mile 106 of the Richardson Highway. Investigation revealed that the driver, Harry Salinas-Johns, age 24 of Copper Center, was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Salinas-Johns was placed under arrest for a 2nd offense DUI and transported to Glennallen AST post where he was held on a $500 bail per the statewide bail schedule.

On September 23, 2025, at approximately 2041 hours, AST received a DV Assault report. Samantha Alexie reported that her fiance, Charlie Lee, was drinking and acting belligerent. She additionally reported, Charlie being in a physical altercation with his father, Michael Lee. Investigation revealed that Charlie had caused fear of physical injury to Samantha and caused physical injury to his father Michael Lee. Charlie was arrested and charged with two counts of DV Assault in the Fourth Degree. Charlie was transported and remanded at FCC.

On 09/14/25 AST made contact with a vehicle located near Ft Wainwright’s perimeter fence, near the Richardson Hwy. The sole occupant, Tianna Montez, was located with approx. .75g of Methamphetamine. She was remanded to FCC for misconduct involving a controlled substance in the fourth degree.

On 09/23/2025, the Highway Interdiction K9 Team conducted a traffic stop on a black Chevy Blazer on N. Windy Bottom Road. Investigation revealed the driver, Scott Shaefer, age 47 of Wasilla, and passenger, Scott Chappell, age 59 of Willow were in possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute and a handgun. Shaefer was arrested and charged with Misconduct Involving a Weapon 2nd (MIW), Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance 3rd (MICS), and Misconduct Involving a Weapon 3rd. The passenger Chappell was arrested and charged with MIW 2nd and MICS 3rd. Both were remanded to MAT-SU Pretrial were they were held with no bail pending arraignment.
