    Residents in the area of Chinook Drive in Kenai are asked to be on high alert following a bear attack in the area this morning. Please remain vigilant when outdoors, supervise children and pets closely, and secure attractants such as trash, pet food, and bird feeders. If you encounter a bear, keep a safe distance and do not approach. Alaska Wildlife Troopers and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game are in the area.

    On 08/25/2025 at approximately 1940 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of an injured person on the Knik River near Metal Creek. AST requested the assistance of the Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) on JBER for assistance. RCC responded via helicopter and transported the patient to a local hospital.

    On August 24, 2025, at approximately 2104 hrs., the Alaska State Troopers received a 911 phone call reporting a domestic disturbance. Investigation revealed that Audrey Barrington had assaulted her significant other. Based on the evidence, interviews, and observations in this investigation, Audrey Barrington was determined to be the primary physical aggressor and was taken into custody and arrested on August 24, 2025, at 2059 hrs., and transported to the Palmer pretrial facility, where she was remanded on the charges of: 

    Assault 4 in accordance with AS11.41.230(a)(1) for causing injury and Assault in the Presence of a Child in accordance with AS11.41.240(a). The case is closed by arrest, pending prosecution by the DAO.

    On August 25, 2025, at approximately 0530 hrs., the Alaska State Troopers contacted Jeromy Henry, who was passed out in the passenger seat of a 2013 silver Volkswagen in The Gym parking lot. Based on the evidence, interviews, and observations in this investigation, Jeromy Henry was determined to be driving under the influence with a breath alcohol content over the legal limit. He was taken into custody and arrested on August 25, 2025, at 0558 hrs., and transported to the Palmer pretrial facility, where he was remanded on the charges of:

    Driving Under the Influence in accordance with AS28.35.030(a)(2) for operating a motor vehicle with a breath alcohol content over the legal limit.

    On 08/25/2025 at approximately 0934 hours, AST received a report of an assault at a residence off of Moat Cir. in Houston. Investigation revealed Thomas Alstrom, age 38 of Alakanuk, had assaulted a family member in front of three juveniles. Thomas was arrested and transported to Mat-Su Pretrial where he was remanded for the charges of Assault in the second degree and Assault in the presence of a child (X3) and held without bail.

    On 8/26/2025, at approximately 0040 hours, Troopers observed Joseph Mayo speeding 69 MPH in a posted 55 MPH zone on the Mitchell Expressway and conducted a traffic stop. Mayo showed signs of impairment, admitted to drinking tequila earlier in the night, and exhibited multiple clues of impairment during SFSTs. He provided a PBT result of .116 BrAC and a DataMaster result of .120 BrAC. Mayo was arrested for DUI and remanded to FCC without incident.

    On August 26, 2025, Melody Marie Carroll was contacted during a traffic stop initiated by Alaska State Troopers and subsequently arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Breath Test. During the stop, signs of impairment were observed, leading to further investigation and arrest. Carroll was remanded to Fairbanks Correctional Center.

    Dispatch Text:

    On August 26, 2025, Alaska State Troopers in Fairbanks received information regarding the location of Ivan Vent, age 38, of Juneau. Vent had a $25,000 warrant for the charges of Assault 2, Misconduct Involving Weapons 3, and Attempted Escape 3. Shortly after the tip came in, troopers located Vent in a vehicle. The vehicle fled troopers, reaching speeds over 100 mph, and crossed into incoming traffic on multiple occasions. Troopers eventually performed a PIT maneuver on the vehicle, ending the chase. Vent received a minor injury during the incident. Vent is being medically cleared prior to being booked into Fairbanks Correctional Center for the warrant and numerous new charges.

    Dispatch Text:

    On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 6:58am, the Kenai Police Department was notified of a bear attack near the intersection of Chinook Drive in Kenai.  Investigation revealed a 36-year-old female departed her residence at 5:45am to go jogging and was near her driveway when the initial attack occurred. A neighbor came outside and located her. The victim was medivac to an Anchorage area hospital with serious injuries.  Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Kenai Police Department, and Alaska Department of Fish and Game personnel searched the area on foot and with a drone looking for the bear.  The bear has not been located. Patrols of the area will continue, and the public is advised to remain vigilant while outdoors.
