On 11/17/2024 at about 0044 hours, the Alaska State Troopers arrived on scene to a single vehicle motor vehicle collision at mile 7 of the North Tongass Highway. Investigation revealed that Theodore Galletes, age 26 of Juneau was operating a 2012 Chevrolet pick-up truck southbound on the North Tongass Highway when for unknown reason Galletes loss control of the vehicle he was operating and traveled across the centerline, into the opposite lane of travel and into the ditch area. The vehicle appeared to be totaled. Gallestes was transported to the Emergency Room by North Tongass Volunteer Fire Department for reported minor injuries. (NTVFD) Case is under investigation. Alcohol is believed to be a factor.

On 11/16/24 at approximately 1130 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a stolen vehicle, 1999 GMC Sierra, off Fireweed Road in Wasilla. AST and WPD located the vehicle within minutes of the report. LEO attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle on the Parks Highway near Main Street. The vehicle failed to yield to LEO, and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle traveled north on the Parks Highway at high rates of speed. During the pursuit, the vehicle avoided spike stripes multiple times, drove in the center median near mile 51 of the Parks Highway, drove in the opposite lane of travel, collided with an LEO vehicle, and collided with an uninvolved citizen's vehicle. The vehicle drove into Big Lake, turned around, and continued towards Wasilla. Ultimately, LEO successfully utilized tire stop sticks deflating the driver’s side tires. The vehicle crashed into the woods at the end of Shampine Lane in Wasilla, and the driver, Janey Lanz age 33 of Wasilla, fled into the woods. After a brief foot chase, Lanz was taken into custody. Lanz was arrested for Vehicle Theft 1, Assault III x2, Failure to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer I, and Criminal Mischief. Further investigation revealed Lanz had multiple warrants for her arrest. Lanz was transported to MSPT for remand. WPD assumed case responsibility. The investigation is ongoing.

On 11/16/2024, at approximately 2257 hours, AST received a report of a domestic disturbance in the area of S. Twilight Dr. AST responded, and through investigation, it was revealed that Mark Redman, age 39 of Wasilla, had committed the crimes of Assault in the 3rd and Assault in the 4th against a family member. Mark was arrested, transported to Palmer Pretrial, remanded, and held without bail.

On 11/16/2024 at approximately 2221 hours, AST was contacted received a report of a REDDI vehicle at the Valley Country store on Bogard. AST responded and investigation revealed that Jay Landingham 55 YOA, of Wasilla, was operating his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Jay was arrested and remanded to MSPT, where he was released on his own recognizance.

On 11/16/2024 at 2126 hours, The Alaska State Troopers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance in Fairbanks. Troopers' investigation determined that Vanessa Gilbertson committed the crime of assault four DV. Vanessa was arrested and transported to FCC.

On November 10th 2024, at about 1303 hours, Troopers responded to the area of Old Chena Hot Springs Rd for the report of a stolen utility trailer. Troopers investigated on a possible lead but were ultimately unable to locate the trailer. Trailer was placed into stolen status. Investigation pending further leads.

On 11-17-24, Delta Junction AST received a report near Mason St in Delta Junction of a suicidal subject. The individual had called to request a ambulance ride to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for a mental health evaluation. EMS responded and transported the individual.

On 11/17/2024 at approximately 1720 hours, the Alaska State Trooper Rural Service Unit arrived in the community of Allakaket for a reported domestic disturbance. Investigation revealed 37-year-old Shawn DeWilde of Allakaket had assaulted a family member. DeWilde was arrested without incident and transported to Fairbanks where he was remanded at the Fairbanks Correctional Center and held without bail.

On November 17th, 2024, at about 1157 hours, Troopers responded to the area of Still Valley Rd for the report of a disturbance between a husband and wife involving a handgun. After further investigation, Troopers placed Chandler Mason under arrest for Assault 3 DV. Chandler was remanded to FCC without incident.

UPDATE 11/19: The Alaska Bureau of Investigation continues to thoroughly investigate the suspicious death of Alena Toennis in Wasilla. During the autopsy, it was determined that there were no traumatic injuries to Alena present. Troopers have spoken with everyone who is involved, including the person who was last seen with her. The Alaska State Troopers believe that this is an isolated incident and not random. Investigators are not requesting any assistance from the public at this time and are awaiting forensic and toxicology results that will be crucial to charging determinations. We appreciate all of the information that Alaskans have reported and will provide additional information once it becomes available.
UPDATE 11/18: The deceased female has been positively identified as: 16-year-old Wasilla resident Alena Toennis. The death is being actively investigated as a suspicious death. Next of kin have been notified.
ORIGINAL: On November 15, 2024, at 7:21 am, the Alaska State Troopers were notified that a female was located deceased on a powerline trail in Wasilla. Evidence at the scene suggests that her death may be suspicious, and the Alaska Bureau of Investigation has assumed case responsibility. Due to the ongoing criminal investigation, the name of the deceased is not being released at this time. Her body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office, and her next of kin have been notified.
